Mortal Kombat Reboot Finds its Liu Kang in Ludi Lin

Joseph Baxter Aug 17, 2019

Power Rangers actor Ludi Lin is reportedly in talks to join the Mortal Kombat reboot movie to play key character Liu Kang.

Mortal Kombat was the fighting game franchise that distinguished itself as the ostentatiously ultraviolent Chinese grindhouse-inspired alternative to the cartoony quarter-munching of the Street Fighter franchise, notably with its over-the-top characters. However, its de facto main character has been, for the most part, the ascetic and honorable chopsocky Shaolin monk warrior, Liu Kang. Consequently, it’s probably big news that the upcoming Mortal Kombat reboot movie has found the actor who will play the crucial (k)ombatant.

Ludi Lin is in negotiations with New Line Cinema to pull off the proverbial fatality of landing the role of Liu Kang in the Mortal Kombat reboot film, reports Variety. While the Chinese-Canadian actor may not yet be a household name, he’s coming off some prominent roles,

Mortal Kombat Reboot Wants Ludi Lin as Liu Kang

The cast for the Mortal Kombat reboot is finally starting to take shape. It's come to light that Ludi Lin is in talks to play Liu Kang in the long-awaited new adaptation of the classic video game franchise. This project has been kicking around for a very long time but, barring some unforeseen catastrophe, it appears to really be happening this time, with modern horror master James Wan previously boarded the project as Sub-Zero. Lin is known for his roles in Power Rangers and Black Mirror. He worked on the mega-hit Aquaman as well, starring as Captain Murk. As it just so happens, James Wan directed the successful DC Comics adaptation. Apparently, that created a solid relationship and opened this door. Lin also has a couple of movies, Son of the South and Summer Knight, in the can.

The character of Liu Kang is an important one to the Mortal Kombat franchise.

Chinese-Canadian actor Ludi Lin is currently in negotiations with New Line Cinema to play the role of Liu Kang in “Mortal Kombat,” its upcoming live-action version of the video game, Variety has learned.

Lin comes to the role fresh off the perfect warmup: He most recently played the kung fu ace Lance in the Season 5 “Black Mirror” episode “Striking Vipers,” an Asian fighter within the world of an indisputably Mortal Kombat-inspired videogame central to the story.

The plot of the new reboot is still unknown, but game centered on the story of Liu Kang, a Shaolin monk with a resemblance to Bruce Lee known for his flying kicks, who tries to save the Earth by fighting for supremacy in a tournament.

Cyrus begins with a fairytale line that quickly indicates that not everything ends happily over swirling, orchestral touches. “Once upon a time it was paradise/Once upon a time I was paralyzed,” she sings on the opening verse. “I think I’m gonna miss these harbor lights/But it

Terminator: Dark Fate - Natalia Reyes on New Character Dani

Delia Harrington Aug 12, 2019

We spoke to newcomer Natalia Reyes about her mysterious character's role in Terminator: Dark Fate and working with Linda Hamilton.

Most of the Terminator: Dark Fate headlines have been about the returning talent. Linda Hamilton is returning to her game-changing role of Sarah Connor after almost three decades away. Edward Furlong is back to play an adult John Conner in spite of his domestic violence history, Arnold Schwarzenegger will be there (isn’t he always?), and James Cameron returns as co-writer and producer.

But the trailers also introduced two new characters. A human-cyborg hybrid named Grace played by Mackenzie Davis, and Dani, who has remained a relative mystery.

Den of Geek caught up with Natalia Reyes, the Colombian actor who plays Dani Ramos, at Comic-Con, to learn more about her character’s role, road tripping with Linda Hamilton, and the film’s impressive action sequences.

‘Black Mirror’ is going for a historic Emmy three-peat in Best TV Movie with ‘Bandersnatch’

‘Black Mirror’ is going for a historic Emmy three-peat in Best TV Movie with ‘Bandersnatch’
Last year, “Black Mirror” made Emmy history by becoming the first program to win multiple awards for Best TV Movie when “USS Callister” prevailed a year after “San Junipero’s” victory. It can extend that record in September if “Bandersnatch” helps it secure the first three-peat in the category.

It makes sense that no program had won more than Best TV Movie Emmy until last year since TV movies are typically one-and-done projects. But shows like “Black Mirror” and “Sherlock” have submitted standalone episodes as TV movies in recent years to great success: “Sherlock” won once out of four nominations (for “The Abominable Bride” in 2016) and “Black Mirror” has been 2 for 2 so far.

But its quest for a three-peat might be a wee bit tough. “USS Callister” and “San Junipero” both won Best Limited Series/TV Move Writing, but “Bandersnatch” failed to get a nomination — part of a dubious historic
