A Discovery of Witches' Teresa Palmer on Damsels in Distress, Saving Matthew Goode, and Season 2
In the year 2019, a show about vampires, witches, and/or demons might not sound like it's breaking any new ground. But BBC America's A Discovery of Witches, which is an adaptation of the first book in Deborah Harkness's bestselling All Souls trilogy, manages to give its female protagonist agency in a way that other series in the same supernatural space have historically struggled with.

Leading the show is Teresa Palmer, whose acting talents have lit up everything from war dramas (Hacksaw Ridge) to horror films (Lights Out) to zombie comedies (Warm Bodies). The Australian star brings her irresistible magnetism to A Discovery of Witches' heroine Diana, a Yale professor visiting Oxford (who is also a reluctant witch) who accidentally unlocks an important, enchanted manuscript in the school's library that leads her onto the path of a handsome, centuries-old vampire named Matthew (The Crown's Matthew Goode). ‘Dragged Across Concrete’ Review – Second Opinion

Stars: Mel Gibson, Vince Vaughn, Tory Kittles, Michael Jai White, Jennifer Carpenter, Thomas Kretschmann, Laurie Holden, Jordyn Ashley Olson, Don Johnson, Udo Kier, Fred Melamed | Written and Directed by S. Craig Zahler

Dragged Across Concrete is the third feature film from writer-director Craig S. Zahler in his, at this time of writing, scorching assessment of America in a social-political discourse in a trilogy of films beginning with Bone Tomahawk and Brawl in Cell Block 99 released in 2015 and 2017 respectively, with his latest feature the most scathing and exciting film yet. A sordid and thrilling epic that throttles your anticipation and expectations with a seismic shift of tense insipid nature that results in a magnificent display of craft in a thrilling atmospheric venture.

Let’s start with the running time. Each feature before Dragged Across Concrete for Zahler has clocked in at a sturdy one hundred and thirty-five minute running time.

Dragged Across Concrete Review: A Shockingly Violent, Slow Burn Crime Thriller

Dragged Across Concrete Review: A Shockingly Violent, Slow Burn Crime Thriller
Mel Gibson and Vince Vaughn have made an unflinchingly brutal film. Dragged Across Concrete is a shockingly violent, slow burn crime thriller. I was both riveted and appalled by the depths of moral morass. Some aspects are fascinating, while others overindulge in pulp theatrics. The racial themes and treatment of women are particularly ugly. Dragged Across Concrete literally goes for your guts. Writer/director S. Craig Zahler peers into the darkest recesses of human nature. It's a visceral journey from the opening frame.

Brett Ridgeman (Mel Gibson) and Anthony Lurasetti (Vince Vaughn) are two hard-boiled detectives in the Bulwark Police Department. Their rough treatment of a handcuffed suspect has earned a lengthy suspension. Vigilant crime fighters, the men feel betrayed by weak politicians and politically correct media. Ridgeman has a wife (Laurie Holden) with multiple sclerosis and a daughter who's constantly harassed by ghetto punks. Lurasetti can barely afford an engagement ring for his girlfriend.

What’s going on with the unpredictable 2019 Oscar race for Best Film Editing?

What’s going on with the unpredictable 2019 Oscar race for Best Film Editing?
The Oscar for Best Film Editing could very well go to any of the five films that made the cut this year. The field includes “BlacKkKlansman” (Barry Alexander Brown) “Bohemian Rhapsody” (John Ottman) “The Favourite” (Yorgos Mavropsaridis) “Green Book” (Patrick J. Don Vito) and “Vice” (Hank Corwin). With three of these films winning the major precursor editing awards and the other two being strong contenders of their own, the winner of Best Film Editing is truly anyone’s guess.

Early indication was that “Roma” could pick up a victory here, considering its frontrunner status and its winning at multiple critics organizations. “First Man” also won many critics prizes for its editing including the Critics’ Choice Award. Neither was even nominated in the final lineup. “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “The Favourite” went on to win the Ace Eddie Awards for drama and comedy, respectively, giving us an indication that it might be

Dragged Across Concrete Trailer Gets Brutal with Mel Gibson and Vince Vaughn

Dragged Across Concrete Trailer Gets Brutal with Mel Gibson and Vince Vaughn
A new trailer for Dragged Across Concrete is here. This is the latest from filmmaker S. Craig Zahler, who has been thrilling moviegoers who don't get squeamish at the sight of extreme violence since his ultra-violent directorial debut, the 2015 western Bone Tomahawk. Now he's back with an unlikely duo consisting of Mel Gibson and Vince Vaughn who play a couple of dirty cops hoping to make a big score to set themselves up for the future.

The trailer kicks off with a darkly comedic bit, but things quickly transition into a dark seriousness. It paints Mel Gibson as an aging cop who has lost touch a bit, while Vince Vaughn, his partner, is pondering his future, leading them to consider stepping on the wrong side of the law. While the footage doesn't do a great job of laying out the story at hand, it does make it clear that this

Six days til Oscar. Six pieces of number 6 related trivia

Six is the number of the day so here are six different stats involving that number for distraction & fun.

1. BlacKkKlansman is the only movie this year with exactly six nominations. The other movies this decade with with exactly that number of nominations: Darkest Hour, Phantom Thread, Manchester by the Sea, Lion*, Hacksaw Ridge, Bridge of Spies, SpotlightCarol*, Boyhood, American Sniper, Captain Philllips*, Nebraska*, Dallas Buyers Club, War Horse*, Moneyball*, and 127 Hours*. I was hoping to discover that one of those titles had Exactly the same category nominations as BlacKkKlansman but none did. Titles with an asterisk lost all their nominations but the bulk of the six-time nominees won at least 1 Oscar which is good news for Spike Lee's Adapted Screenplay bid for BlacKkKlansman, the category its most likely to win in this coming Sunday.

2. Carol is the only six-time nominee in the past decade not to score a Best Picture nomination.
