Only a few scenes fail to draw laughs in a movie that’s unexpectedly smart and consistently amusing.
Nobody saw it last summer. And Hollywood isn’t beating down the cast’s collectives doors. Yet. But these Slow Learners catch on just in time to be the best cheap date movie for Valentine’s Day.
Even if this movie isn’t fresh, it’s often amusing.
Village Voice
While it has a few funny moments (including the uncomfortable date that begins the film), Slow Learners mostly feels like a collection of exaggerated performances of drunkenness and mean-spiritedness that leads to a very predictable end.
Being big on improvisation doesn't necessarily mine nuggets of comic brilliance, and there are times you wish Argott and Joyce would have adhered more closely to the Matt Serword-penned script.
