Horror Feature ‘The Hole In The Ground’ Home Release Details Revealed

Vertigo

We’ve just received some new info for the incoming home release for horror piece The Hole In The Ground. The film, which will be released by Vertigo, is described as a bold and brilliantly constructed cross between Pet Sematary and Invasion of the Body Snatchers, and is the debut feature from writer-director Lee Cronin.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Cronin elicits terrific performances from a brilliant cast, particularly Seána Kerslake (A Date For Mad Mary) as a single mother driven to her wits end, and a wonderfully unnerving James Quinn Markey (Vikings) as her son, who might not be what he seems after his disappearance in the forest. Also appearing are Simone Kirby (Peaky Blinders), Steve Wall (Vikings) Eoin Macken and veteran character actor James Cosmo.

Beautifully filmed in the misty, mysterious Irish countryside, and with an ominous, powerful score Stephen McKeon (Black Mirror) that recalls the rank dread of The Witch,

Sylvester Stallone Down For A Sixth Rambo Movie If Last Blood’s A Success

There’s always an inherent danger in naming a movie “final” or “last.”

Take Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, for instance. While Paul W. S. Anderson very much closed the book on Alice’s story, there have already been rumblings of a potential TV revival. And therein lies the risk to undermine the supposed finale that came before.

The same is true of Rambo V: Last Blood, after lead star and all-around franchise veteran Sylvester Stallone hinted at the possibility of a sixth movie, providing those all-important box office numbers are up to snuff. While appearing at Cannes Film Festival, Stallone recalled his experience on Rocky, during which time he believed the famous underdog story would conclude after round three. And we all know how that turned out.

Could the same be true of Rambo?

“I thought Rocky 3 was the last, you know. So I don’t know anything. If

Box Office: ‘Hellboy’ Powers to $1.4 Million on Thursday Night
Lionsgate’s “Hellboy” remake launched to $1.4 million at 2,700 North American locations on Thursday night.

The number compares favorably with 2017’s “Resident Evil: The Final Chapter,” which scored $1 million in previews and opened with $13.6 million.

Universal’s body-swap comedy “Little” opened with $735,000 at 2,200 sites during Thursday previews.

“Shazam!” will probably repeat as the box office champ in North America after the DC Comics superhero tentpole debuted with $53 million. As of Wednesday, it had earned $67 million at the domestic box office. “Shazam!” launched at the top end of forecasts with an “A” Cinemascore from audiences. It could add another $24 to $28 million in its sophomore frame at 4,306 sites.

Hellboy,” starring “Stranger Things” actor David Harbour, is expected to take in between $16 million to $20 million when it hits 3,303 screens. Directer by Neil Marshall, “Hellboy” is the third movie based on the Dark Horse comic about the half-demon superhero. The cast includes Ian McShane, Sasha Lane and Daniel Dae Kim.

‘Hellboy’ Reboot Summons $1.3 Million at Thursday Box Office

‘Hellboy’ Reboot Summons $1.3 Million at Thursday Box Office
Hellboy,” Lionsgate’s gory, R-rated reboot of the demonic comic book character, made $1.38 million at the box office in its Thursday night previews from over 2,700 screens. It opens on 3,303 screens this weekend.

It is one of four films releasing wide this weekend, and all of them are going up against DC’s “Shazam!,” which heads into its second weekend after a $56.8 million domestic opening. “Shazam!” made another $2.3 million Thursday, bringing its cumulative domestic total to $69.7 million.

‘Hellboy’ Strikes $1.38M On Thursday As ‘Shazam!’ Looks To Fly To No. 1 Again With $20M+

‘Hellboy’ Strikes $1.38M On Thursday As ‘Shazam!’ Looks To Fly To No. 1 Again With $20M+
Here’s how the rest of April looks before Avengers: Endgame blows up all box office records on April 26: There’s an avalanche of counter-programming going on over the next two weeks, and this week that includes Millennium Entertainment/Lionsgate’s R-rated reboot of Hellboy, Aviron/Voltage’s feature take on Anna Todd’s new adult novel After, Universal’s kid comedy Little and United Artists release of Laika’s Missing Link.

This is different from the event film-a-weekend release pattern that occurred throughout most of March and into last weekend with Captain Marvel, Us, Dumbo and Shazam!. Plus there’s not a four quad blockbuster opening over the next Holy Weekend, a period in recent years which has been RSVP’ed by blockbuster launches such as Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and Furious 7. Instead, we have another R-rated horror pic, The Curse of La Llorna.

Will ‘Shazam!’ Still Fly High With ‘Hellboy’ at Its Heels at This Weekend’s Box Office?

  • The Wrap
Will ‘Shazam!’ Still Fly High With ‘Hellboy’ at Its Heels at This Weekend’s Box Office?
While four films are set to release wide this weekend, the big showdown will be between comic book films, as “Shazam!” goes up against Lionsgate’s gory, R-rated reboot of “Hellboy.”

The “Shazam!” showdown against “Hellboy” comes after the DC superhero film’s $56.8 million domestic launch. However, while the Warner Bros./New Line film had strong critical and audience reception coming off of the weekend, Monday’s box office numbers were lower than expected for such a well-received film, with just $3 million grossed. While those numbers may have been weighed down by the broadcast of the Ncaa basketball championship, Exhibitor Relations analyst Jeff Bock says it makes him wonder whether the good word-of-mouth for the DC blockbuster is really spreading to other audiences.

“Perhaps family audiences will show up to ‘Shazam!’ and keep it No. 1,” Bock said. “But if hardcore comic-book fans who saw ‘Shazam!

The Meg 2 Is Pulling Ideas from Steven Alten's Other Meg Books?

The Meg 2 Is Pulling Ideas from Steven Alten's Other Meg Books?
The Jason Statham kicks a giant prehistoric shark in the face for two hours motion picture The Meg was one of the more entertaining horror-action movies to hit the screen last year. National Treasure and 3 Ninjas director Jon Turteltaub's big-budget adaptation of author Steve Alten's 1997 blockbuster book Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror was a big enough hit with audiences (and kinda critics) that it seems The Meg 2 is set to swim our way sooner rather than later. But more interesting still is the fact that The Meg 2 may be based on one of Alten's other The Meg books.

Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura recently said in an interview.

"I think a little bit and I'm going to reserve comment because until I read it, I don't want to send people off in the wrong direction."

Fair enough, Di Bonaventura. But just saying The Meg 2 might

Resident Evil Fans React To The Netflix TV Series Announcement

With 2016’s Resident Evil: The Final Chapter finally closing the book on the surprisingly lengthy Paul W. S. Anderson era, the lane is now clear for a new take on the Resident Evil franchise, and as per last night’s announcement, it seems that Constantin Film has a Netflix series in mind for the action-horror property.

Naturally, the internet has its opinions on the news, and while the franchise’s cinematic run apparently wasn’t to everyone’s taste, the general response to this fresh start suggests a mix of cautious optimism and healthy skepticism:

Excited about the Resident Evil series coming to Netflix but don’t you dare speak ill of the Resident Evil movies. Especially not the first one. pic.twitter.com/6EqdcTgXsR

Resident Evil Headed for Further Resurrection on Netflix

I would have dearly loved to have seen what sort of movie George A. Romero might have made out of the video game series, but his vision for Resident Evil was never realized and instead we saw what Paul W.S. Anderson wrought with Milla Jovovich as Alice. Jovovich made for a striking action-horror heroine, but I didn't particularly favor Anderson's style of directing, and the series of films that followed reaped ever-diminishing returns, from a creative standpoint. On the other hand, you always knew what to expect: action, blood, action, guts, action, all spewed forth at a rapid pace. The 'final' film in the series, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter may have only made $26.8 million at the U.S. box office, but it grossed $312...

Resident Evil TV Series In The Works At Netflix

Though the Resident Evil film series has proven surprisingly sustainable under the guidance of Paul W. S. Anderson, many would argue that the time is long past due for a fresh take on the popular video game franchise.

Sure enough, Deadline is now reporting that Constantin Film is currently at work on a Netflix original series based on the action-horror property, and a search is apparently underway for a showrunner to shepherd the project. While no one is commenting on the news just yet, Deadline relays intel that the show will “expand the Resident Evil universe and deepen the existing mythology.”

It’s also said that the series will maintain the basic premise of the games, while exploring the inner workings of the Umbrella Corporation and the post-apocalyptic world created by the outbreak of the T-virus. Finally, the report adds that the show’s expected to incorporate “all of Resident Evil’s signature elements,

Resident Evil Reboot Loses Producer James Wan

Resident Evil Reboot Loses Producer James Wan
James Wan is no longer producing the Resident Evil Reboot. The upcoming reboot of the big screen version of the popular zombie video game franchise entered development very shortly after the most recent movie, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, hit theaters last year. Not long after, it was revealed that Wan, the man behind The Conjuring franchise, had boarded as a producer. Unfortunately, that didn't last.

The prolific filmmaker has been making the rounds promoting his latest movie Aquaman. Aside from his work directing, James Wan produces, or at least flirts with producing, many other high-profile projects. During a recent interview, Wan was asked about the Resident Evil reboot and firmly confirmed that he's not involved anymore, while also explaining some of his larger frustrations with the fact that projects he's working on, or in some cases not working on, get announced before they're real. Here's what Wan had to say about it.

Resident Evil Reboot Lands 47 Meters Down Director

The Resident Evil Reboot has found its director. Even though the long-running franchise, which is based on the very popular Capcom video game series of the same name, just concluded its run last year with Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, Constantine Films wants to keep cashing in. As such, they're moving forward with a reboot and they've tapped Johannes Roberts to helm this new chapter in the franchise, which will be taking things in a different direction.

According to a new report, Johannes Roberts, who previously helmed the hit shark flick 47 Meters Down, has been hired by the studio to write and direct the new Resident Evil movie. It seems as though they're not going to sit on their hands with this one, as it's expected that the reboot will begin production sometime in 2019, with an all new cast stepping in. Sorry, Milla Jovovich fans. Roberts also directed the recent
