Demonstrations of Trust
23 July 2014 | by Alex_HodgkinsonSee all my reviews

'What Flies Beneath' fully demonstrates the love and trust Hiccup and Toothless have for each other. Toothless has a score to settle with a rogue Whispering Death that has appeared in Berk. He refuses help from others, including his closest friend and rider, Hiccup. The episode mainly persists of Toothless hunting the Whispering Death and the Riders with their dragons searching for Toothless while finding out more about this new dragon and Toothless's rivalry with it.

This episode has much of what we love about 'How To Train Your Dragon'; it has Hiccup and Toothless's growing trust and love developing and a new(ish) dragon, the Whispering Death. Before this episode, we've only heard descriptions and stories about the Whispering Death in the first film and the 'Book of Dragons' short. To actually see it is great. If you're into the dragons and their designs, this is another must see episode as it focuses largely on this new dragon.

The scenes where Hiccup and Toothless demonstrate their trust for each other are brilliant, especially one perfect scene. Toothless not being able to fly means he needs Hiccup to ride him, this he needs to accept his help in defeating the Whispering Death. It's not a perfect story, but it's still extremely good with some relatively intense moments.
