Storyline

It's December 1969 in Watford, England, and Jeremy Sloane is at the end of his rope - literally. His failed attempt to end it all has just joined a growing list of recent setbacks, which include getting sacked from his accounting job and a separation from his wife Janet, who has left to "find herself." The one remaining constant in his life are his evenings at the pub with childhood mates Ross, Reggie and Beans. Although the gang have big plans for the approaching decade, Sloane simply longs for employment and the return of his wife. Although a part-time job as a supply teacher goes ludicrously wrong, Sloane may luck out romantically, due to a chance encounter at a hardware shop with a free-spirited, young American woman called Robin, who might just help Sloane get his life back on track as the new decade approaches. By turns hilarious and heartbreaking, Mr. Sloane is an everyman muddling through the human comedy as best he can, learning lessons about love, longing, and loyalty along ... Written by Anonymous

Funny, touching, well acted British drama

I am already a fan of Nick Frost - I love him in the Cornetto trilogy - but I must say this didn't bias me at all.

Mr Sloane is subtle; it does not rely on crudeness or vulgarity. Moreover, Nick Frost's consistently unlucky character is likable and very well acted might I add.

The main story is set in the late 1960s about a very unlucky man called Mr. Sloane simply searching for some luck. His plight is funny, touching and heart-warming, and some believable and equally likable characters are introduced such as his friends (including the wonderful Peter Serafinowicz), Robin the pretty American lady who woos Sloane etc. The fantastic Olivia Coleman plays the part of Sloane's soon-to-be ex-wife who has left Sloane to "find herself".

It is well written, well filmed and well edited. All in all, it is a lovely gem of a TV show which definitely deserves a go!
