Anachronisms

When John Wick awakens to his alarm clock at 6:00am on the day of his wife's funeral, the sun is shown to not have not yet risen over the horizon. When he is awoken the following day (or possibly two days later) by his dog, also at 6:00am, there is full sunshine streaming through his bedroom window.

The Mustang is from 69 but is not a Boss 429, as Iosef mentions (even if John is not denying or confirming) just a regular Mach 1 or Cobrajet. The Boss 429 had a very large hood scoop and side decals stating Boss 429.

Continuity

The driver's side rear view mirror in John Wick's Charger is damaged before he strikes any vehicle. He then wrecks into one vehicle using the driver's side and pulls around to hit yet another vehicle with the passenger side of the car. In this shot, the driver's side rear view mirror is undamaged. After bashing around vehicles with both sides of his car, Wick screeches to a stop and mirrors that were damaged and hanging in previous cuts now appear undamaged.

Early in the movie right before John Wick is jumped by the Russian Thugs in his garage, he is woken in bed by his dog. The clock reads 1:41 (AM) but if you watch closely, right as John gets out of bed, you get another glimpse of the clock and it reads 10:00.

When Aurelio talks to Iosef in the beginning of the movie, there's a car with open hood behind Aurelio's back. In the first scene, there is a lamp alight on its hook hanging on the inside of the open hood, and a paper coffee cup.

In the next scene the lamp is gone, it's just hood without any lightning.

And in the next scene Aurelio slams the hood in anger. If the lamp was there, it would have been shattered, and the coffee splattered.

In the final fight John stabs Viggo downward into his right shoulder. Viggo falls to the ground in a sitting position with a bollard and a life jacket directly behind him as shown in the overhead crane shot. When the scene shifts to a dock level shot Viggo is suddenly several feet to the right of where he was previously, and is now leaning on a wooden crate.

In New Jersey, when John Wick first encounters Iosef, they are both pumping their own gas. However, self-serve gas stations are banned in that state. In filming locations, it says that this gas station is in Upper Nyack in New York.

In Slavic folklore, Baba Yaga is not the Bogeyman or male at all. Baba Yaga is portrayed as a female, usually an old woman. Depending on the story, she either helps or hinders the protagonist. She's a trickster, sometimes good, sometimes malevolent.

Russian Orthodox Churches don't permit use of musical instruments. Another proof that John Wick is walking into a Catholic church. The song playing in the church is Ludwig van Beethoven's "Ode to Joy", which is used as a hymn tune in many churches, i.e. Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee, but is not used in Russian Orthodox service.

Early in the movie, we see John's puppy following him getting into the car (the Mustang), and taking the front seat next to the driver. John then heads to a large open space, where he has the opportunity to drive hazardously with some real braking turns in it. Those are impossible to do with a dog (even a puppy) placed in the front seat without harming him bad, because he would smash himself in front of the seat. Even if not placed in the front seat, it would still be very dangerous to drive like that with a puppy inside the car.

During the gun battle at the pool / night club, the gunshots are CGI. The evidence is twofold: first the smoke dissipates far too quickly - almost instantaneously. With so many shots within an enclosed space, there would be some wafting smoke. Look in slow motion to see number two: the gun blast does not match the trajectory of the shot even if there is blood spatter. An easy illustration is when Wick shoots a guy hiding behind a column, by first shooting him in the toe. The gun blast is not aligned at the foot. There are other examples. It is far less evident that there is a problem, if the blast aligns with the gun, rather than making it explode toward the target. Everyone looks at the gun fire, and then looks to see where the shot hits.

Incorrectly regarded as goofs

The tattoo across John Wick's shoulders reads "Fortis Fortuna Adiuvat," which literally means "(the) strong (ones), Fortune helps", or "fortune favors the bold". This is a quote from a play by Terence, written in 161 BCE. It is often misquoted in English texts as "fortes Fortuna adiuvat", which uses the accusative plural ending -es instead of the "Republican" accusative ending -is, making some believe that the quote is misspelled. Apparently John knows a thing or two about antique playwrights.

It has been claimed that the phone call between Wick and Winston was a goof due to the smartphone screens being on. Many cellphone screens, even when in call mode, stay on for 10-15 seconds. Wick and Winston's call was only several seconds long. Also, you can clearly see on both phones the red "End Call" button which only appears in call mode.

When Marcus saves John from being suffocated his shooting position is on a rooftop in broad daylight surrounded by taller buildings. He would have been easily spotted. Snipers always try to use a shooting position where the cannot be spotted.

Perkins is executed by four men standing around her in a square formation. All of the men are shooting one-handed and three of them appear to be aiming at her head. Although visually interesting, it would be extremely risky to execute someone in this configuration as any round that misses or penetrates Perkins has a high possibility of hitting the gunman standing opposite.

Wick is carrying a Glock 26 in a small of back holster. Right after he's stabbed by Kirill, he's thrown over the balcony. He drops from about 16 feet and lands on his back. This would certainly have broken his spine - in fact most law enforcement agencies prohibit this type of holster for this very reason.

Revealing mistakes

There are several scenes in which the use of CGI knives is apparent. When Wick kills his last armed home intruder, the knife is not visible in the window reflection throughout their fight. Secondly, during the basement pool shootout at the Red Circle club, Wick stabs the muscular man in the left shoulder. However, as he triple taps and shoots him in the head point blank, the knife is no longer visible.
