Dr. Rachel Scott: The virus seems to be a little bit more complicated to target than I anticipated, and the added gene might not be one that I've identified as of yet.

Not my monkeys, not my circus
28 November 2016 | by tenshi_ippikiookamiSee all my reviews

We have got the monkeys, we are back in the ship, the vaccine trials may start.

Finally, with this sixth episode, "The Last Ship" offers some clear focus and a 'paranoia' oriented episode. Till now, between meeting all the bad guys still alive in the world (good for the viewers, as they can practice languages), and going around we haven't had a proper episode that centers on fear and distrust. In this episode, we get that.

Doctor Scott is doing what she is supposed to do: trying to find a vaccine. But she is having more problems than expected. Chandler, Jeter and Slattery have doubts about what they should tell the rest of the crew. Is it better to keep them in the dark or just tell them everything?

In this episode we get the eternal topics: trust, and community. There are not many people in the ship, but all are different and their status has changed since the virus started creating havoc. But they have been behaving as before without really checking if it was the right thing to do. The show does a good job to show how trust may be created or destroyed, and how to build a community, where everyone may have a different role, but respect and responsibility exist.

"The Last Ship" is still on shaky ground, but this episode is a step in the right direction.
