The 7 Best Movies New to Netflix in April 2019

Netflix is adding a diverse array of new titles to its streaming library this April, from certified American classics like “Deliverance” to more recent cult favorites like “The Fifth Element.” But the most exciting thing about the platform’s latest crop of movies is how they point towards Netflix as a repository for essential foreign cinema that wouldn’t otherwise have been available to such a wide audience of American viewers. From a much-hyped masterpiece like Lee Chang-dong’s “Burning,” which received a long but limited theatrical run, to the Locarno-winning “A Land Imagined,” which is going straight from the festival circuit to the streaming world, Netflix is becoming an invaluable safety net for new international fare. It’s no substitute for seeing these movies on the big screen, but perhaps their availability will stoke a renewed interest in subtitled film, and inspire people to take a chance on the

How everything fits together remains a mystery at this point, with the trailer offering very little in the way of clues. In this excerpt from the latest Flickering Myth Podcast, hosts Allen and Gerald discuss the trailer, and what we might expect from the movie…

Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time In Hollywood visits 1969 Los Angeles, where everything is changing, as TV star Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his longtime stunt double Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt) make their way around an industry they hardly recognize anymore. The ninth film from the writer-director features a large ensemble cast and multiple storylines in a tribute to the final moments of Hollywood’s golden age.

I can’t wait for this look back at Old School Hollywood from two-time Oscar winner Tarantino. You can see movie stars from decades ago starring in this – James Dean, Steve McQueen and James Cagney, just to name a few. Tarantino has had a long-term love affair with Hollywood. His eighth film, The Hateful Eight (2015), was released in its roadshow version in 70 mm film format, with opening “overture” and halfway-point intermission.

‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ First Trailer: Tarantino Brings DiCaprio and Pitt to 1969

‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ First Trailer: Tarantino Brings DiCaprio and Pitt to 1969
Quentin Tarantino, it’s good to have you back. Sony Pictures has debuted the first official trailer for “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” the ninth feature from Oscar winner Tarantino that promises to be the director’s penultimate movie should he stick to his plan of retiring after his tenth movie. “Hollywood” finds Tarantino reuniting with two of his biggest stars: Leonardo DiCaprio (“Django Unchained”) and Brad Pitt (“Inglourious Basterds”). The three marquee names are enough to make “Hollywood” one of the biggest movie events of the year for cinephiles.

“Hollywood” is set in 1969 and centers around a television actor (DiCaprio) and his trusted friend and stunt double (Pitt) as they try to transition away from television and into the world of Hollywood moviemaking. The duo live next door to Sharon Tate and Roman Polanski (Rafał Zawierucha), which means at some point their plan to break into the movie

Movies New to Netflix in April: ‘Burning,’ ‘American Honey,’ and Extended Version of ‘Hateful Eight’

Movies New to Netflix in April: ‘Burning,’ ‘American Honey,’ and Extended Version of ‘Hateful Eight’
Netflix might be skipping this year’s Cannes Film Festival, but the streaming giant is offering a bit of a mea culpa in its April offerings, which come with some exciting options from bonafide auteurs who also happen to be Cannes regulars, including Lee Chang-Dong, Andrea Arnold, and Quentin Tarantino. Ken Loach’s Palme d’Or winner “I, Daniel Blake” will also join Netflix’s ranks next month, along with classics like “All the President’s Men,” “Bonnie and Clyde,” and “Deliverance.”

In April, Netflix will add Lee’s lauded Cannes competitor “Burning,” which missed out on Oscar love but picked up plenty of other accolades during last year’s awards circuit, including a number of nods for star Steven Yeun. It will be joined by Arnold’s 2016 Palme d’Or entry “American Honey,” along with an extended version of Tarantino’s “The Hateful Eight”.

The streaming service will also

Here’s What’s Coming to Netflix in April 2019

Netflix has announced the new films and TV shows that will be available on the streaming service in April 2019, and it’s a pretty eclectic bunch. For those looking to do a Quentin Tarantino deep-dive in anticipation of his new movie this summer, the “extended version” of The Hateful Eight will arrive—which I assume is the "roadshow" version of the film, that comes complete with an intermission. There are also even a couple of films made before 1984 on the list, including stone-cold classics All the President’s Men, Bonnie and Clyde, and Deliverance. If it’…
