Cilla, Black Mirror and My Mad Fat Diary up for International Emmys

A host of British talent has been recognised in the newly-unveiled list of nominations for the International Emmys 2015.

Sheridan Smith and Rafe Spall are amongst those being recognised, having being nominated for their performances in ITV's Cilla and Channel 4's Black Mirror respectively.

Elsewhere, My Mad Fat Diary has been nominated for Drama Series, while 50 Ways to Kill Your Mammy was also nominated for the Non-Scripted Entertainment award.

Engrenages, which airs on BBC Four as Spiral, has been recognised in the Drama Series category.

Meanwhile, the 2015 International Emmy Founders Award will also be awarded to Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes, while HBO's Richard Plepler will receive the 2015 International Emmy Directorate Award.

International Emmy nominees announced

Forty programs from 19 countries have been nominated for 2015 International Emmy Awards. None, alas from Australia.

The awards cover 10 categories and will be announced on November 23 at the Hilton New York Hotel.

Nominees come from Angola, Austria, Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, France, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey, UK and the Us. This year the Academy will present two special awards. Downton Abbey writer/creator Julian Fellowes will receive the 2015 International Emmy® Founders Award.

HBO chairman/CEO Richard Plepler will receive the 2015 International Emmy Directorate Award.

As If reported Matchbox Pictures. Nowhere Boys and Galaxy Pop.s Get Ace are in the running for the 2016 International Emmy Kids Awards for best kids series and kids animation.

Cilla star Sheridan Smith up for best actress award and Downton Abbey writer and creator Julian Fellowes to receive special prize

Britain is leading the way in the International Emmy awards, picking up a nomination for actor Sheridan Smith and a special award for Downton Abbey writer and creator Julian Fellowes.

Downton Abbey, which has won Bafta and Golden Globe accolades, will collect the 2015 International Emmy founders award at the ceremony in New York. The prize is given to individuals whose creative accomplishments have contributed in some way to the quality of global television production.

Sheridan Smith paid tribute to the late Cilla Black at the TV Choice Awards last night (07.09.15). Broadchurch, Poldark and EastEnders triumph at the 2015 TVChoice Awards

Broadchurch, Poldark and EastEnders were amongst the big winners at tonight's (September 7) TVChoice Awards, hosted by Lenny Henry.

David Tennant was named Best Actor for ITV's murder mystery Broadchurch, which was also awarded Best Drama Series.

Sheridan Smith won Best Actress for her portrayal of the late Cilla Black in Cilla.

Poldark made up for its Best Drama Series defeat, walking away with the Best New Drama award.

As the awards turned to the soaps, Coronation Street, EastEnders and Emmerdale shared the glory.

Alison King (Corrie's Carla Connor) was named Best Soap Actress and Danny Miller (Aaron Livesy from Emmerdale) won Best Soap Actor.

Davood Ghadami (Kush Kazemi) took the Best Soap Newcomer award back to Walford and the residents of Albert Square celebrated winning Best Soap.

UK TV ratings: ITV's moving tribute to Cilla Black brings in 3.4m on Tuesday

A total of 3.35 million viewers paid tribute to Cilla Black on Tuesday night (August 4), according to overnight data.

ITV's hour-long tribute The One and Only Cilla Black, which featured an introduction from her close friend Paul O'Grady, attracted a 15.8% audience share at 9pm, and was watched by a further 249k (1.6%) on +1.

Elsewhere, Love Your Garden appealed to 3.16m (16.2%) at 8pm (186k/0.9% on +1), and a repeat of Sheridan Smith's drama Cilla gathered 1.23m (11.7%) at 10.40pm (106k/2.0%).

BBC One's New Tricks topped the ratings outside of the soaps with an impressive 5.37m (25.5%) at 9pm. Earlier, Rip Off Britain intrigued 3.60m (20.2%) at 7pm.

BBC Two's Great British Menu continued with 1.73m (8.4%) at 7.30pm, before The House That £100k Built interested 1.70m (8.7%) at 8pm, and Are Our Kids Tough Enough? Chinese School fascinated 1.82m (8.6%) at 9pm.

Special documentary The One and Only Cilla Black, which aired two years ago to mark her 50th year in entertainment, will be adapted following her death.

The one-hour documentary will celebrate Black's life and career, and will open with a new tribute from her long-time friend Paul O'Grady.

TV presenter and singer Cilla Black dies at the age of 72

Cilla Black has died at her Spanish home at the age of 72.

Spanish police in Marbella confirmed the much-loved singer, TV presenter and entertainer's passing to The Telegraph.

"I can confirm the death of British national Priscilla White, aged 72," said a police spokesperson.

"We are still awaiting autopsy results, but everything at this stage is pointing towards her death being the result of natural causes."

"It is with deep sorrow that I confirm today the passing of singer & TV personality Cilla Black," added the entertainer's agent.

"Details of her death will be announced following the coroner's report. Her family have asked for their privacy to be respected at this time."
