Character error 

An experienced police inspector would not tell someone they were under arrest and then allow them to sit down and lose sight of their hands.

'Brooke Burns' introduces her character as Detective Price and uses the term detective throughout the movie. In San Francisco, investigators are called inspectors, not detectives.

Factual errors 

The Captain's conscription of Ross to perform services for free in order to stay off the suspect's list is illegal.

Inspector Price illegally took the glass without consent or a warrant. so any evidence obtained from it would likely be excluded as fruit of the poisonous tree.

Despite the repeated comments in the film the lamprey is not a type of eel. They are totally different animals, a mistake that a "Gourmet Detective" would not have made and would have corrected.

The handcuffs used by Inspector Price are not police issue- the center chain was too long.
