Storyline

Jeff Bauman is a well-intention-ed but underachieving Boston native who works at the deli counter of a Costco and lives in a small two-bedroom apartment with his alcoholic mother, Patty. One day at the local bar, Jeff runs into his ex-girlfriend Erin, who is attracted to his kindness and charm but finds herself constantly frustrated by his lack of commitment. After learning that Erin is running in the Boston Marathon to raise money for the hospital she works at, Jeff asks every patron in the bar to donate and then promises Erin he'll wait at the finish line for her with a big sign. The day of the Marathon, Jeff scrambles to make it to the finish line on time but reaches it just before Erin reaches the finish line. As she approaches a bomb goes off right where Jeff is standing. After being rushed to a hospital, both of Jeff's legs are amputated above the knee. When he regains consciousness, Jeff tells his brother that he saw the bomber before the explosion. Patty calls the FBI, and ...

Trivia

Bruins fans Scott and Aaron Tisdale were extras in the scenes filmed when Jeff Bauman receives the honor of being wheeled out to wave the Bruins flag at the "Bruins vs Blackhawks game. Those scenes were actually reenacted on 4/5/2016 after the Boston Bruins vs Carolina Hurricanes game. See more »

Goofs

When Jeff comes out for the national anthem during the hockey game, both benches are empty and both teams hockey players are nowhere to be seen. In real life, the anthem is sung just prior to puck drop with all of the players and coaches present; either on the ice at the blue lines or on the bench. This reality also separates hockey from other sports such as baseball, basketball and football which, apart from huge games like season openers or championships, usually complete the anthem singing during warmups or while the players are still in the dugout or tunnel. Additionally, one of the advertisements on the boards is for the NHL's playoff bracket contest despite the fact that the division re-alignment that created the bracket system (in which teams must first play the teams in their division before advancing to the conference finals) was first instituted during the 2014-15 season and not during the 2013 playoffs in which the film is supposed to be taking place. Stronger Review
9 September 2017 | by simonfainshteinSee all my reviews

Stronger is a brilliant film with strong performances by Jake Gyllenhaal, Tatiana Maslany, and especially Miranda Richardson. David Gordon Green's choice to use practical lighting and creating a setting that seems real results in an extremely sincere film. John Pollono writes a script that held true to Jeff Blauman's story by focusing more on his struggles and keeping the Boston Marathon tragedy in the background. Also boobs.
