Limited docuseries looks back on the group's career. It was music and shared lyrical genius that allowed them to form the most recognized musical movement in the world, all while walking the tightrope that links business with brotherhood.
A documentary spanning over 30 years of the California Bay Area's punk music history with a central focus on the emergence of Berkeley's inspiring 924 Gilman Street music collective. Narrated by Iggy Pop and executive produced by Green Day, Turn It Around: The Story of East Bay Punk is the definitive telling of this vibrant story, drawing from a wide variety of voices and viewpoints.
It was a lot longer than I expected, around two and a half hours, but that's good, cause it means we got to cover a lot of ground, like a book.
It actually reminds me of a book I read called American Hardcore, which eventually became a movie. Each chapter was about a band and that band's input into the punk scene. Turn it Around works similarly because it's a documentary about the people for the people.
All I really knew about The East Bay Punk scene was Green Day, who not only participated in the film but produced the film as well.
I like the in depth look on the scene but what I really liked was the opportunity to explore bands and music that I've not herd before that was definitely my favorite part.
