Did You Know?
Although this show is a direct sequel to the original Twin Peaks series, three other canonical entries in the Twin Peaks franchise, namely David Lynch's Twin Peaks film Fire Walk With Me, the deleted scenes from the movie that were later released as Twin Peaks: The Missing Pieces and the show's co-creator Mark Frost's book The Secret History of Twin Peaks, have an even bigger influence on the plot of season 3. Surprisingly, Frost's book contains several minor and major inconsistencies with the original series such as removing Annie entirely from the story. These "errors" are supposedly intentional and not retcons, mistakes or oversights, and they will be explained either in the show's third season or in Frost's follow up book Twin Peaks: The Final Dossier that's set for release as soon as the third season finishes airing.
