Jay Morgan is the uncrowned king of a Rocky Mountains valley, who as main employer and sponsor expects everyone to gratefully help execute his plan to modernize the ski resort his grandfather built, but his aunt Barbara Morgan and her lawyer are equally determined to keep the valley unspoiled. Jay's newly-wed Kristen Ward, poor-born daughter of single sheriffs deputy Annie, attempts to mediate a compromise. Jay however is furious that Barbara started initiating Kristen in his dark family secrets, and shortly after Barbara has a fatal fall at home. This renders the Wards, and her resort-employed gay old friend Bob Sloan, increasingly suspicious of Jay and his henchman Mark Adams. They are all in for unpleasant surprises.
