In the Far Harbor dlc for Fallout 4 there is a lake and when swimming across the lake you will see two skeletons floating on the lake, one of which is lying on a door and the other is in the water holding on to the door. This is a reference to the famous scene from Titanic (1997)
When traveling around the Quincy area in the game a fridge can be found with a ghoul child inside who has been trapped since the bombs fell. This could be a reference to the scene from Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, which has a scene where Jones survives a atom bomb by hiding in a lead lined fridge. This isn't the first time the Fallout series has poked fun at this idea. In Fallout New Vegas (2010) a fedora wearing skeleton can be found inside a fridge without a door if the player chooses the Wacky Wasteland trait.
One of the 'message in a bottle' notes reads, "Come out to the coast, we'll get together, have a few laughs" references Bruce Willis in Die Hard. He says this in the movie sarcastically to illustrate the predicament he's in at Nakatomi Plaza.
The raiders in the wreck of the FMS northern star speaks Norwegian. The accent is from the northern part of Norway, which have a lot of old traditions by the sea. The ship is a reference from the Norwegian ship MS Nordstjernen.
The player's robotic butler, Codsworth, can address the player by their chosen name. There are over 900 recognized names Codsworth will say aloud when speaking to the player, including rather profane ones.
In order to suss out the new consoles (PlayStation 4, Xbox One) the developers made a functioning port of Skyrim on the Xbox One. Fallout 4's director, Todd Howard, stated to not get your hopes up yet though, leaving it ambiguous if Skyrim would be remastered or not.
Players can acquire power armor frames from enemies by either stealing the fusion core through pickpocketing or by shooting the fusion core in VATS, causing it to overheat. But, this can cause certain companions to dislike the player since it is considered stealing.

The in-game radio station, Diamond City Radio plays a variety of songs from the 1940s and 50s. Some of them were featured in Fallout 3 , but many of them are unique to Fallout 4. There are also five original songs by Lynda Carter who plays a singer (Magnolia) in the game. These songs are added to the Diamond City Radio rotation after the player meets this character in the game.
Stephen Russell the voice actor who portrays Nick Valentine also portrays Mercer Frey the first leader of the thieves guild appearing in Skyrim. Both characters have a talent for unlocking in one capacity or another.
