Toho Company Ltd., the Japanese company that owns Godzilla and produced the original King Kong vs. Godzilla (1962), intended to produce a remake of the film in the early 1990's under the title Godzilla vs. King Kong. However, they were prevented from making the film due to legal issues, as Turner Entertainment, the copyright owners of King Kong
(1933), threatened to sue Toho for using Kong's likeness. See more
