‘Monos’ Filmmaker Alejandro Landes’ Next Movie Scooped Up By Imperative

  • Deadline
Exclusive: Imperative Entertainment has acquired rights to the next film from Alejandro Landes, whose film Monos was a buzz title at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, winning a special jury prize in the World Cinema Dramatic competition and scoring a U.S. distribution deal with Neon.

Details of the new project are being kept under wraps, but sources say Imperative made the deal in a competitive situation, and Landes will write, direct and produce the film based on an original pitch. Imperative’s Dan Friedkin, Bradley Thomas and Ryan Friedkin will also produce.

The Colombia-born Landes made his directorial debut in 2007 with Cocalero, a documentary about Bolivian coca grower Evo Morales and his unlikely campaign to become the country’s first indigenous president. He followed that with his first narrative feature Porfirio, which played in the Cannes Film Festival’s Directors’ Fortnight lineup in 2011.

Lupita Nyong’o Inspired Anthony Rapp to Speak Out About Kevin Spacey

Lupita Nyong’o Inspired Anthony Rapp to Speak Out About Kevin Spacey
Eighteen months since he bravely spoke out about the alleged attempted sexual assault he experienced at the hands of Kevin Spacey when he was just 14 years old, Anthony Rapp is doing just fine. The original “Rent” star began a plum gig on TV’s “Star Trek: Discovery” around the same time BuzzFeed published an interview in which he detailed the 1986 encounter with Spacey. In an interview with comedian Cameron Esposito on her Queery podcast, Rapp said he was moved when the “Star Trek” fandom rallied around him, and shared what was going through his head when he decided to speak out.

“None of us ever thought that anything could ever come of all of this. We all just thought that we’d have to look the other way and get along. It’s such a profound paradigm shift. It just didn’t seem possible that these people could be removed from power,

Rian Johnson Brings Knives Out Trailer to CinemaCon

Rian Johnson Brings Knives Out Trailer to CinemaCon
The first trailer for Rian Johnson's Knives Out just wowed the crowd at CinemaCon. Lionsgate decided to surprise those in attendance with the first look at Johnson's follow-up to Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which is a decidedly very different kind of movie. This time around, the filmmaker has decided to tackle a whodunit-style murder mystery with an impressive ensemble cast in a thriller coming from Mrc. Apparently, based on the reactions to the footage on social media, that all makes for a winning combination.

Rian Johnson was on hand to present the first trailer for Knives Out. He described the movie as his own take on Agatha Christie, while also saying it has a "Hitchcock thriller-type twist." Jamie Lee Curtis and Ana De Armas were also on hand to present the footage, which went over like gangbusters. Digging around online, there isn't a single negative reaction in the bunch to what was shown.

Actor Michelle Williams said she was ‘paralysed with feelings of futility’ after being 'paid less than $1,000 compared to the $1.5m' that Mark Wahlberg received 'for the exact same amount of work’ while reshooting the film All the Money in the World. Speaking in Washington DC on 2 April during a hearing about closing the gender pay gap, Williams said 'if it was like this for me, a white woman in a glamorised industry, how were my sisters suffering across their professions?' She said the lack of initial reaction was the most depressing element. The controversy only seemed to come to public attention, she said, after the actor Jessica Chastain tweeted about it

What Liam Neeson’s Racial Comments Mean for His Upcoming Films and Future Job Prospects
As debate continues to rage over Liam Neeson’s racially-charged remarks, many in Hollywood are wondering anxiously what the fallout might mean for his upcoming films and the future of his career. Some observers even think the interview could permanently damage his career.

After he shared this week that, decades ago, a close friend revealed she was raped by a man of color and he considered committing violence against black men in revenge, Neeson attempted a quick rebound before the opening of his Lionsgate film “Cold Pursuit.” The explanation of his remarks weren’t enough to neutralize the impact, many felt, and social media users and industry players continued to call him a racist after he explained that he would have had the same reaction if his friend had said her rapist was a white man.

“You are no hero for your admission. You are a representative of racial terror,

The Internet Wants Liam Neeson Removed From Men In Black International After Racist Remarks

By now, you’ve probably heard about the recent comments made by Liam Neeson in an interview with The Independent, which saw the star of Cold Pursuit and the upcoming Men in Black International admit to walking out into the streets armed with a cosh multiple times a few decades ago in the hope of getting into a conflict with a black person that would give him an opportunity to kill them.

Understandably, the claim has been the subject of heavy controversy and backlash, and for fans who were looking forward to the next Men in Black movie, it would be putting it lightly to say that the incident has soured the atmosphere. In the sci-fi reboot, Neeson is set to play High T, the head of Mib’s UK branch, but according to some Twitter users, the studio would do well remove the actor from the final cut, with

Angry Fans Want Liam Neeson Digitally Erased from Men In Black: International
Some angry fans are calling for Liam Neeson to be digitally edited out of Men In Black: International after revealing that he wanted to "kill a black bastard." The week did not start off very well for Neeson who sat down for an interview to promote his upcoming Cold Pursuit. When asked how he gets into character for all of the revenge movie that he does, Neeson told a story about a friend who had been raped and his quest for revenge, which involved him going into the "black area" of town, waiting for someone to come at him just so that he could kill them.

Liam Neeson has since tried to clarify his comments, but it only seemed like he was doubling down on them in another recent interview. As a result, Lionsgate shut down the red carpet event for Cold Pursuit. And now, social media is crying to
