Awaken...This is the only thing the youth of Hai to Gensou no Grimgar remember before awakening in an unknown building in a medieval landscape enshrouded in darkness. They don't remember anything besides their own names. What's stranger is that sometimes they catch themselves saying words that they don't understand, even though they seem so familiar. The group of strangers is told that in order to make a living, they would have to join the Reserve Army forces to keep the town safe from nearby monsters. The stronger looking people form a team to join the Reserve Army and depart, leaving Manato, Haruhiro, Ranta, Yume, Mogzo, and Shihoru to fend for themselves. But how will they get by if they can't even defeat the weakest of monsters? Born from the ashes of their old memories, the ragtag team of six start a new life in the world of Grimgar.
Really Good Fantasy With Great Characters And Interesting Story
I'm genuinely baffled as to why this anime gets any negativity. I just finished it today and now it's one of my favorites.
Story gets an 8, characters get a 10, voice acting gets a 10, animation gets a 10, tone gets an 8, music gets an 8, runtime gets a 9, and comedy gets a 7.
The premise is pretty interesting and gets you asking questions. All of the characters are very lovable to watch, especially Haruhiro. One of them is unlikable at first, but they grow overtime. The voice actors also did a perfect job. Each line was spoken with the right amount of energy. The animation is absolutely beautiful. The backgrounds always looked pretty, vast, and awesome. The action scenes were also well-done. Tone might be a bit mixed. The overall feel is like a slow-paced drama, but other times it feels like your regular action series. But it isn't too bad; for the most part, it's definitely focused. Music was also really good; any track used for any scene really fit the mood and compliments the scenery. In a few episodes, it feels like it's dragging on for a bit, so you might get a little bored. But before you know it, it's over. Some fan-service comedy here and there, which I feel, is overdone, but everything else is pretty funny.
Overall, Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash gets an 8.8 (Great).
I really think you should give it a watch. At least try the first three episodes and see if you like it. If you don't, then you can go try Castlevania (yes, they made an anime of that)
