Alex (Melissa George) and Pierce (Dave Annable) disagree on whether an experimental treatment for those with advanced stage cancer is right for the hospital's patients. True to form, Alex takes matters into her own hands with a risky move to find volunteers. Meanwhile, Max (Joshua Leonard) looks to drastically change the family dynamic with Alex, and Ji-Sung (Maya Erskine) connects with Callahan (Jamie Kennedy).
Alex returns from a conference with a new experimental treatment for cancer patients. She can only treat a limited number of patients. Pierce has a patient who's a good candidate but Pierce advises him to just live out his life which causes a strain for them, Alex then decides to go online to get candidates but a whole lot of people show up. She tries to choose who are viable candidates but in the end ends with more than she's allowed. She then goes online to protest this which brings in the press and brings her before the board. Callahan tries to show Ji-Sung a different side to him. And an artist who putting a sculpture in the hospital catches Silvano's eye.
