An amazing pilot episode
2 December 2017 | by SyoKennexSee all my reviews

In the first episode of Boku no Hero Academia, we are introduced to young Izuku Midoriya. Born without a Quirk, in a world of young teenagers with them, growing up to be heroes, and looking up to his idol, the All Might hero; a symbol of peace. Quirkless, Midoriya desperately wants to be a hero, no matter what; he wants to follow in the footsteps of All Might, he wants to save people with a smile on his face and become a symbol of peace himself.

Throughout the first episode, we see everything that Midoriya went through his life, everything that stood against him. He is shown to be a young man, fragile, but determined; he's inspiring as a character straight away in the first episode, and it's wonderful to see. It's hard to show such a strong and well developed character in the first twenty minute episode of a series, but Boku no Hero Academia does it brilliantly.

I really love the animation in this. It's not much different from most animes, but it's fluid, and coloured well. The character designs are all really fitting to the characters; even if some, such as Kacchan, have generic character designs that are found throughout most animes now a days. This definitely isn't a negative however; it helps people get into the swing of things quickly. It makes things easier to understand and it was much easier to get into this episode with this small little detail.

All in all, this was an amazing pilot episode. I was totally enamoured, I really wanted to watch more, and I'm on a binge watch. This is brilliant; a really well chosen set of genres that come together to make one whole show. Well done, well written, and a definite must watch.
