Storyline

In a world where humans and anthropomorphic animals, e.g. talking dogs co-exist, a macho but lonely Rottweiler police dog named Max is ordered to go undercover as a primped show dog in a prestigious dog show with his human partner Frank (Will Arnett) to stop an animal-smuggling scheme that is using the dog show as a front. When Max finds out the criminals are planning to sell Ling-Li, a baby giant panda, at the upcoming Canini Invitational dog show in Las Vegas, he's forced to go undercover as an entrant accompanied by Frank posing as his trainer..

Trivia

During the first scene at the dog show the chihuahua Chloe and her mate Papi from the movie Beverly Hills Chihuahua get a short cameo, with Chloe (noticible by the same voice from the movie and same diamond necklace) having a quick line about talking dog movies not being mainstream anymore. Alternate Versions

Two scenes were cut upon the second week of its US theatrical release - these edits also apply to the home release. After receiving complaints, presenter/distributor, Global Road Entertainment deemed them inappropriate for children. They concerned the subplot of Max having to have his testicles touched by the show judges. However, all UK (and therefore Irish) releases are uncut with the same PG rating - according to the BBFC, this is because the controversial scenes are "entirely innocent, non-sexual and occur within the clear context of preparation for and judging in a dog show". Disturbing message of sexual compliance
23 May 2018 | by lyndaacbSee all my reviews

This movie is only slightly entertaining, parents should know, when the dog's genitals are groped by the show organizers, he doesn't' like it, and is told he needs to just deal with it and not complain to anyone (when he is being "checked out")....he is told to find his happy place and just bear it, that it will be over soon. Terrible message for kids in my opinion. Wonder what pedophile will use this as an example the next time they are grooming their victims. I'm all for artistic freedom, but this is a really creepy message. It's a message like so many women have been victim of in Hollywood....you want to get in the show, you better let me do what I want. But it's even worse that it is geared toward children. They "humanize" these animals so kids can relate to them....and then send this creepy, not so subliminal message.
