Excellent Performances, Humor and for Family Audience
19 May 2017 | by mb1456See all my reviews

I went to watch Hindi Medium with average expectation, so I must say it exceeded my assumptions and can be regarded as a good movie with great performances. But first, I must say a word about the story which is about the challenges & hilarious moments a couple faces when they try to admit their kid in a top private school in Delhi. So this movie has loads & loads of humor and although I'm not a native Hindi speaker, I could still understand enough to find it so comical. But amidst the comedy are the prejudiced portrayal of certain people or aspects of society which annoyed me. Besides that, I hardly found any flaw here. The performances were superb. Irrfan Khan as expected brought the house down with his dry humor. Pakistani actor Saba Qamar's act was also lovely as his wife. She gets almost as much footage as Irrfan and does justice to her scenes, even moments where she needs to be vulnerable & very humble. Welcome to Bollywood! But if there's one actor who I felt to be the best in movie, that'd be Deepak Dobriyal as Irrfan's neighbor. What an actor! He almost reminds me of Nawazuddin Siddiqui with some of his mannerisms, but this guy is a marvel. And also another actor whom I must mention here is Tillotama Shome who acts as an education consultant of sorts in the movie. There's a scene where she subtly suggests Irrfan to cheat for his kid's admission, she was brilliant in that. Overall, this movie is very watchable and suitable for family audience too.
