Trivia

A tribble can be seen and heard purring on Captain Lorca's desk in his first scene. The tribbles were introduced in Star Trek: The Trouble with Tribbles (1967) and later appeared in Star Trek: The Animated Series: More Tribbles, More Troubles (1973), Star Trek III: The Search for Spock (1984), Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: Trials and Tribble-ations (1996) and Star Trek: Enterprise: The Breach (2003). Goofs

The computer program source code Michael is working on is obsolete as of 2017. The visible LPWSTR keyword means Long Pointer to Wide character STRing. Pointers are potential security breach points, and have been found the cause of many flaws in contemporary (2017) software. They are being phased out in favor of self allocating/reallocating/deallocating objects. It is unlikely that software from 2256 would still rely on a programming concept that would be ancient by then.

Besides, LPWSTR is a keyword invented by Microsoft and used solely within their programming tools. Considering the philosophy of United Federation of Planets / Starfleet, open source software would be more accurate choice over proprietary one. See more »

Saru: "I'm sorry"?
Michael Burnham: Yes.
Saru: I believe you feel regret. But... in my mind, you are dangerous. Captain Lorca is a man who... does not fear the things normal people fear. But I do. And you are someone to fear, Michael Burnham.
Michael Burnham: I just want to get back on that shuttle, Commander. I ...

Heading in the right direction

I'll make this short... The first two episodes tried to cram way too much in to set the foundation. Now we can take our time setting the pace. The third episode is really setting things up and is leaving the door open for a lot of possibilities.

I want to write more about the sister ship but I want to leave this spoiler free. But it did remind me of episodes from other incarnations of Star Trek when they boarded abandoned ships. I'll leave it at that.
