Storyline

Ginny Butler becomes the first female to start in the Major Leagues by starting for the San Diego Padres. Despite, or perhaps because of the fanfare and media circus that surrounded her, she only throws 10 pitches. Ownership forces the Padres manager to let Ginny start another game instead of sending her back to the minors. After the game, she practices her pitches with her father. Periodic flashbacks tell the story of Ginny's path to the Majors including her father teaching her to pitch, winning the state championship and getting noticed by scouts for the Padres. In her second start, Padres catcher Mike Lawson talks to Ginny and tells her to start playing for herself, not for anyone else. This helps her snaps out of her nerves and pitches well into the seventh inning. Written by Bryan Bauer

Trivia

Everyone you see in the stadium crowds, is actually computer generated... well kinda. The special effects crew filmed small groups of people in front of a green screen and then copy filled a bunch of them to populate the seats in the stadium, thereby making the stadium appear to be essentially filled to capacity. So, in effect, you're actually seeing many of the same people, as duplicates, without realizing it, since they appear as a giant crowd. See more »

Goofs

When Ginny is walking down from her hotel room, one of the TV announcers refers to Ginny as "the first female athlete to compete in any of the four major North American professional sports leagues". This isn't true as Manon Rheaume played for the Tampa Bay Lightning of the National Hockey league in 1992. See more »

Quotes

Frank Reid: Your teammates are excited to meet you.
Ginny Baker: No, they're not. Ticketing and sales people, they're excited to meet me. My teammates, 75% think I'm the next San Diego Chicken. The other 25 just want to see me shower. And I bet your manager thinks you should've called up Walker instead of me, and I'm just here because of all that. But none of that matters. You know why?
Frank Reid: No, but colored me intrigued.
Ginny Baker: Because today, I'm the starting pitcher for the San Diego Padres.
