‘Mouse Guard’ Director Pulls a ‘Deadpool’ and Releases Demo Footage From His Canceled Fox Movie

One recent casualty of the Disney and Fox merger: director Wes Ball’s ambitious animated feature “Mouse Guard,” based on David Petersen’s Eisner-winning comic series. While Ball has been vocal about his desire to keep the film, described as “‘Game of Thrones’ with mice,” alive after Disney canceled the film’s production back in April, he took to Twitter last night to share that the film is officially dead.

Ball wrote of the cancellation, “Seems it’s too big a risk. It’s a damn shame really. We had something special. To my hella talented cast/crew: I’m sorry I couldn’t push this one through. The past year with you all has been a blast. May the Guard prevail!” Idris Elba, Andy Serkis, and Thomas Brodie-Sangster had all been attached to the film at the time of its April cancellation.

And yet Ball declined to only offer bad news,

‘Mouse Guard’ Movie Concept Art Teases the Vision for Disney/Fox’s Canceled Project

The good news to come out of Disney canceling the Mouse Guard movie, a casualty of the mega-company's buyout of Fox where the project was originally set up, is that you can get a look at some of the beautiful concept art from artist Darek Zabrocki. The bad news, of course, is that the movie is still canceled as of this writing. But who knows, if you like this art enough and make enough noise about it, maybe the Mouse House will reconsider canceling the adaptation of the medieval-themed comic series written and illustrated by David Petersen. …

Clint Eastwood Circles Back to Direct Richard Jewell Biopic for Disney

Clint Eastwood Circles Back to Direct Richard Jewell Biopic for Disney
Clint Eastwood is reportedly in talks to helm The Ballad of Richard Jewell for Disney. The project had been in development at Fox and it looks like it may be one of the movies Disney intends on making. The studio just squashed Mouse Guard, which was also in development at Fox before the acquisition, two weeks before production was expected to start, putting the cast and crew out of work. With that being said, Mouse Guard is now being shopped to other studios.

This isn't the first time Clint Eastwood's name has been attached to The Ballad of Richard Jewell. He previously showed interest to direct back when the movie was still at Fox and it seems he will take it on with Disney if all goes well. Jonah Hill was at one time attached to play Jewell, while Leonardo DiCaprio was going to play the character's lawyer and family friend.

Disney Flushes Fox's Mouse Guard Just Weeks Before Production Start

Disney is already starting to axe more Fox projects. Mouse Guard was set to begin production in two weeks, but will not be happening after Disney pulled the plug. The adaptation of the Archaia/Boom! Studios comic was highly anticipated and had everything lined up and ready to go. The long-talked about Disney and Fox deal officially finalized at the end of March and Disney has had no problems cleaning house and getting rid of unneeded Fox projects or employees. A reason behind the scrapping of Mouse Guard has not been revealed.

While a reasoning for the production halt on Mouse Guard was not given, there has been speculation it was due to the fact that Disney has a few live-action CGI projects on its plate at the moment. Mouse Guard is set up to use motion capture and a lot of CGI for the mice and other animals, leading

Disney pulls the plug on Fox’s Mouse Guard

It looks like Fox’s planned motion capture adaptation of the Boom! Studios comic book series Mouse Guard: Legends of the Guard has become the first major casualty of Disney’s acquisition, with Deadline reporting that the House of Mouse has pulled the plug on the project just two weeks out from the start of production.

Mouse Guard tells the story of an order of warrior mice who battle foxes, eagles and other predators as the sworn protectors of their medieval-style realm.

The adaptation of David Petersen’s Eisner-winning comic was to be directed by Wes Ball (The Maze Runner) and would have featured a cast that included Sonoya Mizuno (Crazy Rich Asians), Andy Serkis (Star Wars: The Last Jedi), Thomas Brodie-Sangster (Game of Thrones) and Idris Elba (Avengers: Infinity War).

According to reports, Disney executives felt that the “Game of Thrones with mice” project wasn’t a good fit for its slate,

Disney Shuts Down Fox's Mouse Guard Two Weeks Before it Starts Shooting

Just two weeks before production was set to begin on Fox’s adaptation of David Petersen's two-time Eisner winning comics and a graphic novel Mouse Guard, Disney shuts it down. As of right now, the movie is no longer happening at Disney.

Mouse Guard has been described as Game of Thrones for mice. “Set in a human-free, medieval world, the comic follows the so-called ‘Mouse Guard,’ a group of mice who have sworn to protect their brethren from predators and other threats. Weta was providing the digital effects.”

The film had an impressive cast lined up that included Andy Serkis, Idris Elba, Samson Kayo and Thomas Brodie-Sangster. Serkis was going to play the villain Midnight, “a former Guard blacksmith who betrayed the order; Elba was set to take on the role of Celanawe, a former hero who was considered dead but is found; Brodie-Sangster was tapped to play Lieam,

We are a month into the new era of Disney in control of Fox. One of the upcoming films that are hoping to benefit from this technology is “Mouse Guard.” And if a story about medieval mice isn’t enough to garner your interest perhaps the names Idris Elba and Sonoya Mizuno might help.
