Storyline

As Henry prepares to tour his kingdom Elizabeth insists on accompanying him, and visiting York to meet potential allies but her mother dissuades her, putting herself forward instead. Suspecting a plot Margaret Beaufort detains her, taking her place, and visiting York, where Henry survives an assassination attempt by Yorkist Francis Lovell. He suspects the dowager's involvement. In London the plague strikes and Elizabeth defies the austere Bishop Morton by raiding the treasury to help the sick. With the idea spreading that Henry brought the plague to England rebellion is in the air and Margaret orders the arrest of Elizabeth's cousin Edward as its likely figurehead. However Elizabeth persuades her husband that to rule by fear will do him no good. Written by don @ minifie-1

Trivia

The score for this episode subtly incorporates voices singing the children's song "Ring a Ring o' Roses" or "Ring Around the Rosie" to correspond with the episode's theme of the Sweating Sickness. The song is commonly believed to be based on the Great Plague of London or the Black Plague although the Sweating Sickness was not the Black Plague. See more »

Dowager Queen Elizabeth: Don't be downcast. We shall make it work to our advantage. I just wish I was coming with you.
Margaret Beaufort: Bishop Morton has arrived at court. I wish...
Dowager Queen Elizabeth: My daughter's dress is cutting in and troubling the baby. We will change it in her rooms.
