Storyline

Three years have passed. Uhtred has an estate in Wessex with Gisela and their two children. He receives a visit from Aethelwold, who tells him that a medium, Eilaf, has prophesied that he will replace Alfred as king of Wessex and Uhtred will become king of Mercia. Knowing that Alfred despises his brother's weakness Uhtred does not tell the king the whole story but also learns that Alfred means to marry his daughter Aethelflaed to young lord Aethelred of Mercia to provide an alliance. Another alliance is proposed when Erik returns, seeking Uhtred's cooperation in an attack on London. Instead Uhtred visits Eilaf, who tells him that one day he will be the ruler of all the kingdoms in England. Written by don @ minifie-1

Not one of the best episodes.
3 April 2018 | by jmariani-69084See all my reviews

While still providing good entertainment, episode 5 is not the best of season 2. Too many leaps are made that would confuse anyone who hasn't read the books, but that's a result of doing two books per season with only 8 episodes; 10 episodes per season would have been much better. Anyway, I have a real problem with how Gisela has been written, or perhaps it's Peri's interpretation of the character. I think she is completely unlikeable. Worse yet, Peri and Alexander have zero on-screen chemistry, which is disappointing since Gisela is supposed to be the love of Uhtred's life. After a rip-roaring episode 4, episode 5 was a bit of a let-down.
