A story of family, loyalty, deceit, power, greed, and ultimately revenge. Montreal Mafia boss Vito Rizzuto is a criminal anomaly. Determined to bring peace to the disparate wings of the Montreal crime world of the day, Rizzuto successfully unifies them, serving as a de facto CEO while ensuring a lucrative payday for all. When Rizzuto is suddenly arrested and extradited to Colorado's Supermax Prison for the 1981 murders of three Bonanno crime family members, the powerful empire he built begins to crumble. Rizzuto watches helplessly until his release from prison in October 2012, when a Shakespearean tale of revenge begins to unfold.
The first season is based on the 2015 book Business or Blood: Mafia Boss Vito Rizzuto's Last War, by Antonio Nicaso and Peter Edwards; a dramatisation of the rise and fall of the real-life Rizzuto crime family, a Montreal-based mafia organisation. The second season veers from the book and is fully fictionalized. See more »
A couple of evil twins are sent from Italy by the 'Ndrangheta to take matters in hand and soon start trying to muscle in on Declan's operation. But the mad Irishman isn't giving in without a fight.
Season 2 is action-packed, with a lot of edge-of-your seat scenarios. However, as well as being taut and with no unnecessary scenes or filler, it also manages to produce finely-drawn characters who you can actually care about. Let's hope they can keep the high standards for Season 3.
