Sixteen-year-old Jennifer disappears one night from her village in the Ardennes. Captain Gaspard Deker leads the investigation with local cop Virginie Musso, who knew the girl well. They are helped by Eve, a lonely and mysterious woman.
Based on motives by the global best-seller of the same name by Patrick Suskind, the Perfume series shifts the action to the modern day and uses the book's idea of manipulating people through scent as a springing-off point. A young profiler investigating a series of brutal murders traces events back to a small cadre of boys at a boarding school who experimented with manipulating people using human scents.
I also read Suskind's book, and while it is part of the subject line, this is a stand-alone work of art. The writing, acting, and cinematography are all outstanding. Forget the book. This is one of the best series available in the Netflix library.
