The Madmans Trial
13 September 2017 | by Prismark10See all my reviews

Quacks seems to be finding its feet as it makes better use of its characters. The episode was written by Matthew Baynton.

Caroline Lessing dismayed that as a woman she cannot attend medical lectures, disguises herself as a man only to see her husband Dr Lessing trying to seduce Lady Campbell in order for her to be his patroness.

William uses his modern psychiatric technique on a patient who believes he is a French aristocrat being pursued by revolutionaries. He rounds up his acquaintances to take part in a mock trial where the patient can be found not guilty. It does not turn out well as the patient still remains delusional.

John thinks he has managed to successfully put patients asleep using ether, however debt collectors destroy his equipment and he goes out into the streets to sell toothbrushes. He realises it is more profitable to sell quack cures.

There is a nice twist that Caroline disguised as a man is found attractive by a uranian.
