Yeardley lets Jocelyn keep her home after she tells him whom she suspects to be the spy and Alice is worried it is Silas, though he assures her he was secretly meeting Chacrow and refusing to give him details of the settlers' plans. Christopher believes Jocelyn framed Samuel though both agree he was murdered and Jocelyn, aware of her husband's regard for Pedro, tricks Massinger into selling him to Yeardley as Pedro wished. Meredith's plan to sell items bought from thieving sailors puts Verity in danger and she is saved by Silas, an event which also allows Farlow to claim that he has found the spy. Jocelyn, meanwhile, embarks on an unlikely liaison with blacksmith James Read.
