Trivia

When Johnny is fighting the punks outside the convenience store, he says to the last guy he grabs by the throat "What's the matter? Having trouble breathing?". Mike Barnes said this same line to Daniel in their All Valley match in The Karate Kid Part III (1989). See more »

Goofs

There was never any argument in the original movie over whether Daniel's winning kick was legal or not. Neither Johnny, nor Kreese, nor the judges of the tournament ever expressed any doubt over it. Furthermore, the kick hit Johnny under his chin, which is a perfectly legal move. See more »

Well I was not expecting sequel television series to The Karate Kid films set over 30 years later.

The first episode centres on Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) the antagonist from the original film and the films reminds of the characters from 35 years back as we get flashbacks to the events of the original movie.

Lawrence is a gruff loser, a low level racist, doing menial jobs. He is definitely put out each time he sees a billboard or an advert featuring Daniel LaRusso's (Ralph Macchio) beaming smile as he advertises his car showroom.

When his new neighbour, high school kid Miguel is bullied by some thugs, Johnny springs into action using his karate moves. Migues asks Johnny to teach him karate. At first he says no but later, Johnny decides to resurrect Cobra Kai, his old karate school.

It looks like this might be the reversal of the plot of The Karate Kid, especially now it is LaRusso who is rich and successful.

The Karate Kid was a rather cheesy movie with enough fun factor. The first episode of Cobra Kai bathes on nostalgia but delivers a fun comedy drama.
