The Brainwashing of My Dad (2015)
An excellent example of irrational hypocrisy driven by hatred.. pure propaganda
I consider myself pretty progressive, so I am often annoyed by the views found in conservative media. But it is the irrationality portrayed by people filled with hate that frustrates anyone's efforts to seek knowledge. When those on the lunatic fringe are handed the mic and put in front of a camera, you'll always find hypocrisy, exaggeration, lies, and intentional misconception. This "film" has all those ingredients and more. A pathetic attempt to incite what they view as a voting base, it is nothing more that backhanded excuse for her fathers racism (which is not truly visited in the context of the documentary), while at the same time being a platform for her own bigotry and hatred.
Interesting enough, this is very much like the disgusting rhetoric spewed by ignorant hate-driven KKK members of the 50's and 60's in flyers found on buses and in restrooms around the nation. Hopefully, it will find it's rightful place among those other pieces of propaganda. Laying in the filth, trampled and ignored, while the world continues to move forward above it.
True Progressiveness is not a conservative or liberal movement. Its cultural evolution. Look closely and you'll see views from each side of the spectrum that are good and purposeful. Ignore the rest, including this selection of disinformation.
Medal of Victory (2016)
A few smiles in an otherwise rotten film
With the exceptions of the performances by Richard Riehle & Jack O'Connell, this movie begs to be forgotten. The humor is thin and the writing is something that makes Ed Wood seem like a genius. The Wisconsin locations are attractive and somewhat well shot but that is not enough to get around the overall poor production value and a movie that was just painful to get through. All of this would be forgivable if not for the obvious shill review posted 1st, giving it a rating of 10/10. (Citizen Kane holds an 8.4) Good grief.
Last Ounce of Courage (2012)
Another AWFUL film with artificially inflated ratings.
Honestly, I do not know why I bothered. If you have any appreciation for film, you will avoid this propaganda. Even if you support the message, which I generally do, you should at least give it an honest rating. Rating a low budget, poorly written, poorly acted, poorly directed film as high as Casablanca or Citizen Cane is a travesty. It is just plane WRONG. That being said, how could any intelligent person trust the truthfulness of the film's message if it is so blatantly wrapped in lies and deceit by the so-called "reviewers"? Al Qaeda techniques by those who claim to appose them. I struggled with the rating I chose, because my initial thought was to vote it a 1 in order to help balance the skewed ratings, but I didn't. That would be basically the same crime. No matter how those who falsely inflated the rating feel about the message, as a film it is still just plain bad.
I enjoy a good movie now and then... but 'good' this ain't.
I normally refer to user write-ups and use them to assist me in choosing a fun film to watch. Sometimes the reviews are spot-on, and sometimes it almost seems like someone has coerced their friends to write up a bunch of misleading and plain false reviews to artificially inflate the films review score. I think this may have been done here. If that is not that case, then this is one Ed Wood fan that has found a film that he is just too picky for...
Daniel Magill's character, Andrew, while seeming somewhat whiny stands above the rest of the cast that come across as amateur actors putting together a college film during a long weekend. I am sure they will improve upon their craft as they garner experience, and I wish them all the luck. However, it's painfully obvious here that they have a long way to go.
This is one of those movies that reminds you of the worst of the "Scream" series of movies, just without the polish. If you go by the some of these other "reviews" here, you will be misled. This movie is an absolute turkey. Reader beware!
