My hobby is watching and collecting movies on VHS and DVD. On 17 June 2003, I found the IMDB site through an indication of a friend. My first review was "Anazapta" and since then, when I finish watching a movie, I write my personal opinion about it.
I am eclectic, but my genre number 1 is horror. I see between 800 and 900 movies per year, including TV series ("Sex and the City", "Angel", "Buffy", "Six Feet Under", "Lost" etc.).
My favorite movie is "Casablanca" and it is hard to point out my favorite director, actor and actress. I usually do not read any review before seeing a movie, in order to be not influenced by the critics.
I am trying to list my favorite movies alphabetically ordered, but this list may change:

36 Hours (1953)
Entertaining Hammer Film Noir
During a 36-hour leave, Major Bill Rogers (Dan Duryea) travels to England to meet his wife Katherine 'Katie' Rogers (Elsy Albiin). Bill is training in the United States and left his wife alone for several months. But soon he learns that Katie has moved from their apartment to a new one to have encounters with men. Bill heads to the address and when Katie arrives, he is knocked out by a stranger in her apartment. Further, the man uses his pistol to kill Katie and frame Bill. Now he has less than 36 hours to find the killer and prove his innocence.
"Terror Street", a.k.a. "36 Hours', is an entertaining Hammer film noir with Dan Duryea in the lead role. The plot has flaws, the fights choreography is weak but the storyline is engaging. My vote is seven.
Title (Brazil): "36 Horas" ("36 Hours")
Série noire (1979)
Overrated Black Comedy
"Série noire" is an overrated black comedy directed by Alain Corneau. The story of the clumsy loser door-to-door salesman Franck Poupart is kind of lose among crime, drama and black comedy but does not work very well. Maybe in the late 70´s it would be better rated. The slow pace is not adequate to the story and Patrick Dewaere is annoying with his stupidities. Marie Trintignant is a great surprise performing the teenage prostitute Mona and her first encounter with Franck is unforgettable. My vote is five.
Title (Brazil): "Série Negra" (Black Series")
Mort d'un pourri (1977)
Politics and Corruption
When Xavier 'Xav' Maréchal (Alain Delon) is awaken by his old friend Deputy Philippe Dubaye (Maurice Ronet), he learns that Philippe has killed the also politician Serrano (Charles Moulin) that has a dossier with documents proving the corruption of several politicians and businessmen including Philippe and was blackmailing him. Xavier accepts to provide an alibi to his friend and to follow the investigation to help Phillippe, who has stolen the dossier. But soon Xavier finds that a network of powerful men wants to retrieve the documents and he has to run to survive.
"Mort d'un pourri", a.k.a. "Death of a Corrupt Man", is a thriller based on politics and the related corruption of the Powers That Be. The plot is full of action with a hopeless conclusion. The beauty of Ornella Muti is impressive. My vote is seven.
Title (Brazil): "A Morte de um Corrupto" ("The Death of a Corrupt Man")
Le désordre et la nuit (1958)
The Police Inspector and the Addicted Mistress
When the middle-aged police inspector Georges Vallois (Jean Gabin) is assigned to investigate the murder case of a drug dealer, the suspect is his addicted mistress Lucky Fridel (Nadja Tiller). But soon Vallois and Lucky have a love affair and he believes she is innocent and needs rehab.
"Le désordre et la nuit", a.k.a. "The Night Affair", is a different film-noir. The storyline shows a dirty tale with an old police inspector having an affair with a junkie woman that could be his daughter and manipulating the events in the end to present the best solution for the case. My vote is seven.
Title (Brazil): "Vício Maldito" ("Damned Addiction")
Combat!: One at a Time (1966)
After a successful combat with a German squad, Saunders explains their mission to his men. However a wounded German sergeant has survived and overhears the assignment. He promises to revenge his men killing each American soldier and leaving Saunders for last. One step ahead of the American squad, he becomes a sniper killing the G.I.s one at a time.
"One at a Time" is a tense episode of "Combat!". The story has many good moments but the conclusion is rushed and could be better. Jan Merlin has great performance in the role of a man seeking revenge. My vote is eight.
Title (Brazil): "Um por Um" (One by One")
Game of Thrones: The Iron Throne (2019)
Disappointment. My vocabulary in English cannot find a better word to describe the feeling (I believe) of most of the fans of "Game of Thrones" after all these years. Considered by many as the best TV show ever, the writers messed up with the two last episodes in a rushed and senseless conclusion. The attitude of Daenerys Targaryen in the last episode burning down to ashes King´s Landing was the opposite the fans could expect from that character. But the attitude of Jon Snow toward the woman that loves him is senseless and absurd. The characters and the fans and even HBO deserved better writers. My vote is three.
Title (Brazil): "The Iron Throne"
Classe tous risques (1960)
The Last Days of a Gangster
In Milan, the gangster Abel Davos (Lino Ventura) is sentenced to death "In absentia" and decides to return to France. Abel is a family man with wife Thérèse Davos (Simone France) and two sons, and his partner Raymond Naldi (Stan Krol) helps Abel and his family to flee to Nice. However Thérèse and Raymond are killed by the police and Abel uses his former friends in Paris to help him to go to Paris with his sons. They hire the driver Eric Stark (Jean-Paul Belmondo) to bring Abel and his kids to Paris in an ambulance. Along their journey, Eric helps the aspirant actress Liliane (Sandra Milo) on the road and she also goes to Paris in the ambulance. But soon Abel learns that he is alone and his friends when he was powerful will not help him and he counts only with the support of Eric. What will happen to him?
"Classe tous risques" is a great film-noir with the story of the last days of a gangster. The plot shows that there is no code of honor or friendship after the fall of a powerful gangster. All his former friends do not help him when he needs. The conclusion is adequate for the whole situation. My vote is eight.
Title (Brazil):"Como Fera Encurralada" ("Like Trapped Beast")
Why Did I Spend My Time Watching This Flick?
"Intermedio" is a film with 2.5 IMDb User Rating. Unfortunately this site is no longer reliable with many fake and one line reviews. Therefore I do not look anymore the IMDb rating to select the movies I will see. However "Intermedio" is indeed awful, with laughable dialogs, characters and special effects and senseless storyline. Watching this flick is a complete waste of time. My vote is two.
Title (Brazil): "Caverna Maldita II" ("The Damned Cave II")
Combat!: The Ringer (1966)
The Mysterious Outsider
The outsider G.I. Arthur Adams meets Kirby in battle and joins Saunders´ squad. They are assigned for a mission and Adams endangers the squad, raising suspicious of who he might be.
"The Ringer" is a great episode with good action and tension created by the behavior of the mysterious Arthur Adams. Is he a coward or a German spy infiltrated in the squad is the question certainly raised by the viewers. The final explanation is satisfactory and the episode is well-resolved. My vote is eight.
Title (Brazil): "O Impostor" ("The Impostor")
Game of Thrones: The Bells (2019)
Visually Stunning, but Absolutely Disappointing
The second to last episode of "Game of Thrones", "The Bells", is visually stunning, but absolutely disappointing. The destruction of King´s Landing is amazing and the best the episode can offer. However the expectation of the viewer is frustrated by the awful storyline. Along the years, Daenerys was built as a fair woman. Out of the blue, she goes completely crazy after defeating Cersei´s army that had surrendered in an absolute nonsense attitude. The fight of Jaime and Euron is boring and too long. The end of Cersei is also disappointing. My vote is six.
Title (Brazil): "The Bells"
Overrated Disaster Movie
The Norwegian "Skjelvet", a.k.a. "The Quake", is an overrated disaster movie. The special effects are indeed stunning and worthwhile watching, but the predictable storyline and characters are disappointing. Kristian Eikjord is unpleasant and strange and most of the characters have stupid attitudes. The abrupt conclusion is weak. My vote is five.

Combat!: Ask Me No Questions (1966)
Sgt. Saunders and other soldiers are interrogated by German Capt. Haus in a POW camp. Sgt. Mastin is beaten but resists the interrogation. When Saunders and the other prisoners are separated, it is disclosed to the viewer that Sgt. Mastin is a German officer trying to get information about the Allied troops. When Saunders learns that Mastin is an impostor, he plots a scheme expecting to fix the damage that the information achieved by Mastin may cause.
" Ask Me No Questions" is another engaging episode of "Combat!" again with an impostor posing as an American sergeant. The episode is well resolved and Saunders fix the problem caused by Mastin. My vote is eight.
Title (Brazil): "Não me Faça Perguntas" ("Don´t Ask Me Questions")
The Next Battle
After the funeral for the dead, there is a feast at Winterfell. Gendry is recognized as a Baratheon and proposes Arya to marry him. Brienne and Jaime have a love affair. Daenerys asks Jon to keep secret about his roots but he decides to tell Sansa and Arya. Daenerys, her dragons and her fleet stumble upon Euron´s fleet and are defeated and Missandei is captured by the enemy. Daenerys decides to go to King´s Landing to ask Cersei to surrender but she takes a tragic decision.
"The Last of the Starks" is another excellent episode of "Game of Thrones" with the aftermath of the Battle of Winterfell. There are bad decisions mainly from Jon Snow, disclosing his secret to his sisters, and from Daenerys, deciding to attack Dragonstone and King´s Landing with a wounded dragon and a weak and exhausted army. Sansa has become a disappointing character. My vote is nine.
Title (Brazil): "The Last of the Starks"
Liu lang di qiu (2019)
Boring, Melodramatic and Overrated Mess
"Liu lang di qiu", a.k.a. "The Wandering Earth", is a boring, melodramatic and overrated sci-fi mess without true emotions. The lead characters are poor performers and there are many ridiculous situations such as the woman soldier shooting and destroying the core after the sacrifice of her team to transport it. The melodramatic situations are manipulative and also annoying to the audience. The film is basically supported by visual effects and an original storyline, but the performances, characters and screenplay are not good. My vote is three.

Happy Death Day 2U (2019)
Great and Refreshing Sequel
The college student Ryan Phan (Phi Vu) is the roommate of Carter Davis (Israel Broussard), who is in the dorm room with his girlfriend Tree Gelbman (Jessica Rothe). Ryan is researching a quantum reactor with his colleagues Samar Ghosh (Suraj Sharma) and Andrea 'Dre' Morgan (Sarah Yarkin) in the university lab. Out of the blue, Dean Roger Bronson (Steve Zissis) shutdown their experiment due to the power outages and consumption. Then Ryan is murdered by a criminal dressed as Babyface and awakes on the same day. When Ryan meets Carter and Tree, they learn that the reactor is the responsible for the loop and while trying to help Ryan, Tree is sent to another dimension where she is trapped in the same loop she was before. But the reality is different and she seeks Ryan and his friends expecting to close the loop sending her back to her dimension.
"Happy Death Day 2U" is a great and refreshing sequel of the original "Happy Death Day". The director and writer Christopher Landon succeeds making a sequel maybe better than the wonderful first film using more sci-fi than horror. Jessica Rothe is a great actress, capable to alternate funny and dramatic situations with top-notch performance. My vote is eight.
Title (Brazil): "A Morte Te Dá Parabéns 2" ("Death Gives Happy Birthay to You 2")
Game of Thrones: The Long Night (2019)
"The Long Night" is so far the best episode of "Game of Thrones", showing the Battle of Winterfell. There is the farewell of important characters but two heroines are responsible for some of the best scenes of the show: Lyanna Mormont fighting the giant and Arya fighting The Night King when the defeat of the White Walkers is unexpected. The blizzard makes the image visually dark and hard to see in some moments. The children did not like this excellent episode. My vote is ten.
Title (Brazil):" The Long Night"
Combat!: Nothing to Lose (1966)
Killing on the Street, Killing on the War
The coward G.I Burke has issues with the tough G.I. Vinnick. When Vinnick saves Kirby risking his life, Lt. Hanley recommends a Bronze Star for him causing anger on Burke. Out of the blue, Hanley receives the information that Vinnick is wanted for murder in a street fight. However the outcast Vinnick flees and the squad has to hunt him down. What will happen next?
"Nothing to Lose" is an episode supported by good performances. The unusual situation of hunting a colleague down affects the whole squad except the coward Burke. My vote is seven.
Title (Brazil): "Nada a Perder" ("Nothing to Lose")
Combat!: Counterplay (1966)
Saunders is assigned to destroy a German radar facility with his squad and the specialist Sgt. Rawlings guided by the Maquis Marchand. They need to succeed since seventeen bombers are waiting for them to take off. However the real Marchand was murdered and replaced by a German officer to lure the Allied forces. Along their journey, they are under surveillance of German soldiers and a sniper kills Sgt. Rawlings. Marchand guides them to a fake radar installation and they use the radio to communicate their success. Out of the blue, they learn that Marchand is not a French underground fighter and they need to destroy the true radar installation to protect the bombers. What will Saunders and his squad do?
"Counterplay" is an engaging episode of "Combat!". The screenplay should have been improved and hide that Marchand is an impostor. However, the tension in the episode is worthwhile watching. My vote is eight.
Title (Brazil): "Contra-Ataque" ("Counter Attack")
Separate Lives (1995)
The former police detective Tom Beckwith (James Belushi) leaves the police department to be a psychology student. Tom lives with his daughter Ronni (Elisabeth Moss) and has a crush one his professor, the psychiatrist Lauren Porter (Linda Hamilton). One day, Lauren asks him to follow her during the nights since she has blackouts and might have killed an acquaintance. Tom accepts and discovers that Lauren has another personality, Lena.
"Separate Lives" is an entertaining B-movie with James Belushi and Linda Hamilton. The lack of chemistry between this leading cast is probably one of the greatest flaws of this film. The classes of Lauren Porter are also forgotten. The conclusion is weak. My vote is six.
Title (Brazil): "Dupla Personalidade" ("Double Personality")
Nothing but Expendable Pawns in the War
Lt. Hanley has the support of a tank to help his platoon to take the hill. However, the tank is destroyed by a German bazooka. Now Hanley plans to use the shield of the tank to attack the German bunker also with a bazooka.
"Hills Are for Heroes: Part 2" is one of the saddest episode of "Combat!". The frustration of Kirby and the other soldiers when they take the hill is something heartbreaking. Further, they realize that they are nothing but expendable pawns in the war. My vote is nine.
Title (Brazil): "Colinas São para Heróis; Parte 2" ("Hills Are for Heroes: Part 2")
One of the Best Episodes
Lt. Hanley is assigned to take a strategic hill with a platoon. However they find that the hill is protected by two German nests of machine guns in two bunkers. Without any support of the artillery, he is ordered to send his men to be slaughtered while trying to take the hill.
Divided in two parts and directed by Vic Morrow, "Hills Are for Heroes: Part 1" is one of the best episodes of "Combat!". The faces of the American soldiers and Lt. Hanley that is forced to follow orders is heartbreaking. Kirby has also an important role in this dramatic and full of action episode. My vote is eight.
Title (Brazil): "Colinas São para Heróis; Parte 1" ("Hills Are for Heroes: Part 1")
Reconciliations, Realization and Discovery
"A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" is an important episode, with reconciliations of old enemies; realization of Brienne of Tarth, now a knight of the Seven Kingdoms and Arya Stark, now a woman; and discovery of Jon Snow that now knows who he is. The episode is also a preparation for the next one that may be the best episode of the whole series and certainly the farewell of several characters. Looking forward to become true. My vote is eight.
Title (Brazil): "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms"
When the Druid Panoramix falls from a tree on the floor, he breaks his foot and decides to find a young successor to teach the secret of the magic potion to keep the village protected. He travels through Gaul with Astérix, Obélix and his young apprentice Pectine seeking out a good druid to learn his secret. Meanwhile the evil Sulfurix becomes the advisor of the ambitious Teleferix expecting to learn the secret of the magic potion to negotiate with Cesar while the Roman troops attack the village that is protected only by the Gallic women.
"Astérix: Le secret de la potion magique" is a wonderful family entertainment. The stubborn Panoramix has a great participation in the film looking for an apprentice. The result is the usual, with the Romans helping the Gallic heroes against a greater evil. My vote is seven.
Title (Brazil): "Astérix e o Segredo da Poção Mágica" ("Astérix nd the Secret of the Magic Potion")
Unfriended: Dark Web (2018)
Unbearable Garbage with Fake Reviews
"Unfriended: Dark Web" is an unbearable garbage with fake reviews. Impossible to write a review or see more than ten minutes of this amateurish crap. My vote is one (awful).
Title (Brazil): Not Available
Combat!: The Mockingbird (1966)
The German commander plots with a German officer to pose as the American pilot Lt. Asher to infiltrate and destroy the French underground. Meanwhile Lt. Hanley, Caje, Kirby, and Pvt. While returning to the Allied lines, they stumble upon a German patrol and Asher attracts them and uses the situation to kill Banning and Thorpe, but is wounded by the Germans. Capt. Thorpe survives seriously wounded and they head to a French monastery to seek shelter. But Asher continue to sabotage the group attracting the attention of German patrols.
"The Mockingbird" is one of the most tense episodes of "Combat!". The great performance of Jeremy Slate convinces and the situations created by the spy Lt. Asher are believable. The conclusion is very satisfactory. My vote is eight.
Title (Brazil): "O Imitador" ("The Impersonator")
