I just could't stop watching
The show was developed in a way that I would never expected. It's semi-3D style with shadows and shading distinguished itself from any other animations. The stylish style makes it look like Soda51's video games. There are voice-acting bugs and animation glitches. However, once you get past them, the setting, the characters would get you hooked in for a long time. The story goes smooth at a proper rate despite its short episode length. But everything about this show lives in the shadows of Japanese animations.Although RWBY might be struggling imitating Japanese animations, they did a great job keeping up.Nice work! The void acting and musics are another story. They are just as good as Disney masterpieces!
Can Elysium become another District 9?
Director Neill Blomkamp tried another shot after his fantastic debut film District 9 and the result is pretty satisfactory.Elysium is absolutely not another summer-vacation-popcorn-action-blockbuster compared to the movies released lately but an ironic art work.
Visually I can give this movie 9 if Avatar was 10.Each CGI shot blend in so perfectly with the environment that I can hardly distinguish CGI from real objects. The stunning visual serves the ironic story well making Elysium heavenly and politician's tools evil.I actually hated the drones and envied the Elysium. The action in this movie is quite intensive and impressive owing to the shaky cam and convincing visual.
The story doesn't contain enough twists and turns but still satirize the immigration problem with obvious settings. Why do people in LA mainly speak Espanol? Why does LA look like a slum in Mexico? It's obvious that the director wants to talk about it again after District 9.
In brief,Elysium tells a ironic story alongside with convincing CGI and is packed with better-than-average action.
Pacific Rim (2013)
Isn't it what we dreamed of when we were kids?
Story?Did you call it a story?I think it is just an excuse for marvelous giant robots vs giant monsters battles.Pacific Rim isn't really telling a story, however,it's realizing our childhood dreams. When the Japanese monster movies were hot, many kids must had dreamed of giant monsters.Due to the limit of technology in the 90's,monsters were no more than plastic toys destroying model cities with dumb movements. But I remember that my childhood friends and I talked about monster movies each time we played together and the fun pretending to be monsters smashing things and got punished for that.I guess boys have inborn interests in monsters. After seeing Pacific Rim,I couldn't help crying. Isn't it what we dreamed of when we were kids?Giant monsters smashing a city to rubble, giant robots punching monsters with a fist bigger than a bus and hero saving the world again. All in one,all in almost realistic CG which gave me an illusion that monsters were alive and kicking. Pacific Rim is the best monster movies I've ever seen. Please support the movie or monster movies will extinct.
Man of Steel (2013)
The salvation of superhero movies
For decades.Superman has been a perfect icon living in our minds. But time has changed.Perfect superheros are laughed at and criticized nowadays.Just look back at Superman Returns and you may understand. The team could have played it safe and it is probably still a blockbuster. They could have make superman save the world again from Lex Luthor, but they did not.Instead, they focused on the origin of superman and made it more scientific and reasonable adding more explanations and details. The visual effects were spectacular! What's best about this movie could be its action scenes. The destruction scenes look so smooth and natural.Zack Snyder is undoubtedly a master on visuals.Visuals-lovers will love the movie. Watching this movie in 3D really spoil my experience giving me a headache. I would recommend seeing the 2D version for those who easily get headache.Compared to its predecessor Superman Returns,if Superman Returns was rated 5,this movies deserves 10.
Star Trek Into Darkness (2013)
A breathtaking ride with twists and turns.
More than any other sci-fi movies to date,Star Trek Into Darkness seems to define the space saga.Saw it last night and I was impressed. With stunning visuals,a fantastically told story and 3D effect,it's easily one of the best titles of this genre.
Khan was really a successful character with complicated emotions and backgrounds. He showed up as a villain at the beginning, but soon he stood for justice. At that moment when his tears went down,I thought I was wrong about him. However, some twists reveal his true nature-he was and he still is a villain to most people(not to his crew).
Can't wait for more to come, but manufacture is unforgivable.
