Cobra Kai (2018)
Brings back good old memories.
Before watching the first season of the show, I watched only the original Karate Kid movie that premiered in 1984. Just like the movie, the show impressed me because I could feel the warmth, honesty and veracity of the characters. The actors in the main roles have kept charisma and sense of humor after so many years. A professional production, with attention to detail, with a well-thought-out scenario and no holes plot. The series reminded me of the 1980's when I was a teenager. A never ending story,a continuous struggle of the handsome, rich and popular kids against the helpless weak and skinny nerds. And the good boys always prevail, of course.
Let Him F stay there.
In "Deadwood", the language used by characters is one of the main attractions of the series. It's amazing how cool can sound the use by Al of the infamous F word . The Television movie created in 2019 represents a true homage to the series but also to the Wild West. It is one of the best and most impressive dramas ever made by HBO. Another home run for HBO.Nine stars.
HBO's heavy artillery.
This TV Series is stunning. All the strong words of praise said about this one are completely covered by reality. This amazing TV Show premiered while the viewers were focused on the last season of Game Of Thrones. This is a must see. Ten stars - completely deserved.Good job,HBO!
Game of Thrones: The Bells (2019)
I watched GOT from the beginning,it's a great TV Show. That's the fact,
even if the last two seasons, especially the final one, are at a great distance in terms of quality compared to the first two seasons.
The story of this episode has a number of strong points, ending well with the evolution of some characters, such as The Hound and his brother,or Jamie and Cersei, for example. And Dany's going rogue situation- can be accepted. It often happens that kings and queens to radically change their behavior in crisis situations. It is true that Dany's change should have been done for a longer period in evolution of the show, so as not to leave the impression of improvisation and superficiality. Because this is how the last season of GOT looks compared to the first one : shallow. This episode does not come out of the general context of the season 8.
I am not going to rate this episode.
I'll just say few words about the initial scene of the episode. The Winterfell heroes who died in the battle were burned after a long speech of Jon Snow. What bodies? After Arya stubbed The Night King in previous episode, he turned into ice and broke into small pieces. The same thing happened with his generals. What about the other fighters of the undead army? Have they not suffered the same fate? Because all the fighters who were killed in the battle were transformed by Night King, becoming blue eyed soldiers. That's all.
Game of Thrones: The Long Night (2019)
Ice and fire.
For the start, I have to mention that in order to have a correct perception and a complete picture of this episode, it is necessary to watch the series all the way.The extraordinary part of the entire series - R.R. Martin's books also- is the component inspired by history, strongly influenced by the Wars of the Roses in the history of England and the tumultuous medieval history of France, described in the series of novels "The Accursed Kings" written by Maurice Druon. As the story of the series follows the conflicts that took place between the Stark (York) and Lannister (Lancaster) families, the script is impeccable, without gaps or plot holes.Things change, though, when the fantasy component appears. As long as the expression "The Winter is Coming" refers to an unclear danger situated at a convenient distance, the script is not strongly influenced by the supernatural component. But when the long night and winter have arrived , problems start. This episode is a key moment in building the whole series, and the fantasy component plays a major role here.I will not reveal here what went wrong, but surely things were not perfect in this episode,so long awaited by the viewers. However, I watched this episode with great pleasure, enjoying the typical atmosphere of the show.
Later Edit: I cannot stop thinking about one thing- even though the Night King was killed, why must the entire army of the dead disappear instantly? In normal battles, when the king is killed, his army still can win the battle, and in this case the chances would have been maximum for the army of the dead. This scene seems to me similar with the one from L.O.R. when Isildur managed to cut off Sauron's finger. And if the Night King knew he was the weak point of his army (like in Star Wars-with Death Star),why didn't he just let his army to kill everybody and just watch the end of Winterfell?
"What you don't see, you don't know! "
The film critics talked so much about how good this movie is, that I was very curious to have the opportunity to watch it. And I can say that I found something in this movie to impress me. Someone, better said. Indeed, Daniel Kaluuya is one of the remarkable actors of the new generation. This is the reason why I rated the movie with seven stars.Otherwise, the movie did not really impress me. The story highlights the subject of the woman's condition, of all kinds of discrimination, a topic that does not seem particularly exciting to me for an action movie. The film's script is pretentious, it wants to inspire a complexity worthy of metaphysical topics. After all, it's a crime story, and I expected to see realistic scenes of action, more explosions, spectacular car chases, but that's only my opinion. That's what I had to say about this movie
The Leftovers (2014)
"Do you want to feel this way?" Yes,I do.
I admit that I started to watch this show because of the presence in the cast of actors Glenn Scott and Ann Dowd, which was for me the promise of a good quality production. What made me continue watching the series was the story itself and the great way in which it was put on stage during the three seasons of the series.Justin and Amy were amazing,I already knew that Carrie is a talented actress, I watched her in "Fargo".After I finished watching the last episode, I continued to think about the story for some time, and that's a good thing for me because it shows me I did not waste my time.
Den skyldige (2018)
Awesome Danish crime story
This movie is really impressive because it leaves the feeling that it is very easy to achieve excellent production with less effort. The whole weight of this movie falls on the intelligence of the script and the impeccable interpretation of the main role. This movie kept me in my seat ,in a constant suspense, from the beginning to the last scene.A truly well told crime story.
The Ballad of Buster Scruggs (2018)
"Here's a tale to tell." The Brothers did it again.
I'm not hiding, I'm a great admirer of those brilliant brothers.
The use of the illustrated book , especially of that transparent page, like in old books that I've been reading when I was a kid , to link the six chapters of the movie , was an amazing idea, and I am not talking about those six Wild West stories themselves.Without going into detail, I can say that every story is full of humor and drama. The art of filming here is exquisite, the landscapes looks amazing and the music is perfectly correlated with the evolution of the story and that of the characters.Watching this movie gave me a real pleasure.
Bad Times at the El Royale (2018)
Seen as a whole, the movie is good. The beginning is very promising, the characters are interesting, the suspense appears. Jeff does an excellent job throughout the film, even if some small script holes appear in his story. After an hour, the film's rhythm starts to decrease, sadly. All the the tension created around the evil character ,that appears in the first half and seems to be a key character of the entire movie - disappears, in my opinion, with the entry of the main villain, some kind of handsome and well-built hippie religious cult leader played by Chris. And that girl sang way too much for a two and a half hours long movie, even if she is good at it.
Les frères Sisters (2018)
Brotherhood of Sisters.
The only comic thing in this movie is the title, in my opinion.I would not fit this movie into the "comedy" category. It's a very good Western drama. The close relationship of the two brothers is beautifully illustrated, and each of the main characters have a solid background.Joaquin's artistic talent, portraying the young and violent brother as well as John's role as a a decent and responsible protective big brother, makes a decisive contribution to the success of the movie.I loved the night shootout scenes. For a western genre fan, this one is a good movie to watch.
Watching good movies ruins you for enjoying bad movies,
This is a beautiful romantic drama.I am glad that Lily James was chosen for the role of Juliet Ashton. The direction of the film seemed impeccable, which is not a surprise, given Mike Newell's cinematic achievements. After seeing this movie I am in love with that island where you can find loyalty, friendship , tolerance and love,of course. Not to mention the beautiful landscapes.A pleasant movie to watch.
Penny Dreadful (2014)
Things are so rarely what they seem.
This is one of my favorite horror TV series.Well crafted, with lot of tension, creepy moments ,dark and mysterious characters. All seasons evolves coherent and natural, the suspense grows from one episode to another. The show has action, gore, all the things you would expect from a horror story. The dark characters and situations seemed genuine to me.The only thing I found little hard to accept is the sign of equality between the negative character from the Bible and that of Bram Stoker's novel.
Speed Kills (2018)
Speed kills ?
I wonder what was in their minds when they decided to make this movie. A lot of money spent, endless hours of work. This movie has on its cast famous actors with huge revenues, who have already played in very good movies or TV series. What is the reason for this movie? I made an effort to see it by the end. I'm curious if John
Travolta had the patience to watch it all the way. I can say that the only thing that this movie excels on is the banality. That is not art.
The House That Jack Built (2018)
I generally do like the serial killers movies, and here Matt plays more than convincing. I do not mind the cruelty of the murders, nor the sick imagination that Matt's character is trying to materialize, bringing sadism to the limit of supportability by the viewer. It was the narcissistic desire of the director to shock the viewer and, above all, the intermingling of the scene of the slaughterhouse with the artistic creation and the attempt to offer the philosophical connotations of the sadistic actions of a psychopath who is sitting on a pile of corpses, that depressed me.Now I need a fine comedy to cheer me up.
Bird Box (2018)
This is not by far the best or original post-apocalyptic film I have ever seen. But it is not the worst. I know that it is in the nature of the genre that certain liberties of truth can be taken, but it is hard for me to visualize (to remain consistent with the movie theme) how a blindfolded woman can run through a forest without even hitting one tree. It is a great performance, even for Sandra.
Les Revenants (2012)
A French zombie story.
They do come back,so they got to be zombies. They do not look scary at all,at the first sight, you are not even sure that they are really dead. It's the music, the eerie atmosphere, the weird events that makes you think that something is not right, that something unnatural and unexplained happens under your nose ,but you cannot put the finger on it,until bad things begin to happen. They made an American version of the show, but I am not curious about it.The original French series was more than compelling. The O.S.T. performed by Mogwai is really intense.
Angel Heart (1987)
This movie is really good.Mickey and Bobby makes the perfect fit in this one.The scenes with fan looks amazing ,it leads my thoughts to another great movie - "The Apocalypse Now",in witch the fan\helicopter propeller produced an amazing artistic effect. The soundtrack is great, the story is compelling .Nine stars.
It's one of the best crime TV series I've ever watched. After a long time spent watching American or English movies and TV Series,I once decided to try something else, from another place of from another cultural area.Good for me,because I have found Bron-Broen. And I've enjoyed it.Nine stars.
American Horror Story (2011)
I'm going to write only about the American Horror Story-Apocalypse. The first impression was like : Wow! - It's the eternal story they're talking about ,the epic fight between light and darkness, with lots of souls wasted and huge blood waves spilled. For a horror genre fan, sounded real good. So,I watched it. A fight between Warlocks and Witches.Really? The son of the ancient snake, the hell bringer looked like a pretty face dumb psycho spoiled moron wearing leather clothes. The good girls looked like some witches escaped from Hogwarts after a Voldemort's raid. Anyways, the series have some cool parts,it wasn't boring if you accept the holes in the script and the story lines given. The end of the story was poor. The horror with a happy end. They used last five minutes of the show trying to explain that the darkness will start the war over again with another six six six boy.Something like The Apocalypse reloaded. It won't do.
